Just purchased my first bike but can't get over to pick it up till Monday. It's about an hours ride away!

The missus is dropping me there then following me back.I'm both excited and nervous. Looking forward to getting my first bike but slightly apprehensive cos I've only ever been on a bike for one day (my cbt) and although I passed it, I certainly don't feel like I'm that comfortable on a bike to take on a road trip solo. It's going to be mainly country roads but also town/village driving.

I just hope the weather is dry!!

All part of the learning curve I guess.

Just take it steady and remember what you learnt on your CBT and you will be fine.

Yeah, done that last night. Was pleasantly surprised how cheap it was....one of the few benefits of getting older I guess.

Got breakdown cover too. Don't fancy being stuck out in the middle of nowhere with me bike.

You'll be fine, if you weren't up to it you wouldn't have completed your CBT and received your certificate. First little bit will be the worst, get over that and it will all be gravy Thumbs Up

I rode pillion to go get my xt, nearly pooped my pants riding it on to the road for the first time.

Our natural predators are White Vans, peroxide blondes in 4x4s, anything with a flat cap or blue rinse, and lampposts.

Rubber side goes down, subframe should be pre-twisted for your convenience. Enjoy.

My first solo ride was from near Tower Bridge to Enfield in the evening rush hour Shocked
After that baptism of fire everything else seemed easy.

Picked mine up from Chiswick and proceeded to crap myself when I rode under the tube bridge out the back of Sainos and a train rattled over at the same time.

After that it was okay. Laughing

My first ride was to an MOT station.

Main thing I was bricking was round-abouts, with multiple lanes. Just a case of changing lane where you can. Natural on them now, didn't help I did my CBT with two hours sleep. Shocked

My first ride ever on any bike was on a moped in my backyard (pre-CBT days)...I wound back the throttle and hurtled across the grass and through the flowerbed aiming to the shed...my mother shouted "BRAKE!!"

So I braked, turned and grinned, let go of brake (throttle still wide open) and smacked into the shed... Embarassed

You'll be fine Thumbs Up

I remember mine *shudders*

It was 75 miles away in the middle of january.

Got there and the temp was -1c and only got colder. I completely misjudged how cold I would get (i.e and wind chill of -15c). It took me 2.5 hours to get home after multiple trips Laughing

I have thawed out enough to laugh about it now.

Dont be nervous and relax. Nothing like the thrill of bringing a new bike home. get pics.

Ride your ride and enjoy. Have your wife take pics as you leave and on the road

This is when I picked up my new 2011 KTM from the dealers last year. 1 km on the clock. lekka.

Be a man. I was like you, only experience of being on the road was a couple hours in my CBT. So you know what I did? Bought a bike 15 miles from Lands End, and rode it over 100 miles home to south Devon. Not only did I have to learn gears from scratch, but the bike needed a new battery and I ended up staying in a bed and breakfast in Redruth before I could get it sorted.

Oh, and the guy I thought was going to lead me home buggered off after I went the wrong way almost immediately Mad.

So yeah, an hour's ride with company will be a breeze! Thumbs Up

Dont worry, just take it slow and dont ride in the gutter. you could always stop about half way, just to take a break if you feel nervous.
Just remember to take gloves. last thing you want is your hands freezing up.

As said above a few times. Dont ride in the gutter. Ride in the middle of your lane. Have the other half ride close enough to avoid a car slotting in behind you but far enough back to stop should you stall or need to stop.

Dont over think. just enjoy your ride home.

I'd run in my first bike by the time I'd got it home... Home was 15 miles away, and I went the scenic route.

did you ask about delivery?

the first bike i owned the guy dropped it off for me, and my dad dropped him home... (gave the guy a tenner for his time)

this bike dealer wanted me to pick it up, but i told him "i only live 10 miles up the road, throw it in ya van for me... he dropped it off inclusive.

I only did that once. Not that I didnt want the ride the bike home, it was in work hours and i couldnt get a lift, if I caged to go collect it who would bring my cage home?

The man has a wife who will drop him, and make sure he is fine riding home. What better can you ask for?

Couldn't you have shortened that slightly? Wink
Unless it was for pleasure, I guess, brave man doing that on your first ride!

My first ride was a night ride practicing my commute, because I was shitting it!

I remember mine too Wub

It will be a memory you will remember for, well, ever.

I learnt so much, it was epic.

I can remember getting it home and being all exited for the morning.

Sunny saturday morning hell yessss I was out for about 5 hours.. on pretty much the same circuit. Getting used to gears, clutch, indicators, controls, then I started to speed things up really gradually. Took me about 3 days till I full throttled it along the country lane Laughing

I can remember thinking.. fuck me it's fast Laughing

Thumbs Up
