I'm assuming they're quite strict about it being upto scratch?

Ive got - Shit headlight, bodged in, no hi-beam
Broken ignition
No speedometer

Just not happening unless I sort it right Laughing
Worried they might be like "why the fuck is your tank black when the bikes registered as blue"

Bit prang
People telling me to just hire a 500 and do the unrestricted test, but I've never been on big ole banana slug and it'd make it cost a lot more, and how would I get the hire bike to the test centre? Confused

Wouldn't wanna flop, know the feel of my YBR very well and would be much more comfortable on it (believe it or not Wink )

If it's any reassurance they didn't check my bike at all, they just noted the registration and that was it. Could be because its a brand new 2012 bike though so they didn't see the need.

It's not an MoT, they will do a basic check to make sure you're not taking the piss, that's all. Turn up with a bald tyre and you'll probably get sent away. They'll never notice lack of Hi Beam, and won't bother much about the headlight so long as it looks ok at a quick glance, the ignition shouldn't be a problem either.

Lack of speedometer... well... is it actually there but not working or just non-existent? If it's there but not working, they will never notice it isn't working... so possibly you need to fix nothing to do your Mod 1

If your bike looks a state they will take an interest. Being cynical, some examiners will find any excuse to refuse to test you to get an extra 15 minute paid break during their day.

anything that is an MOT fail is a legitimate reason to refuse a test.

I turned my headlights off before my MOD2 shortly after starting the engine, and straight away I got
"your headlight bulbs gone, change it with the spare you should always carry around"
over the intercom as the examiner put his bike back on the stand and started to dismount!

its really in your interest to have everything at least looking reasonable.

It's there but smashed up and covered in insulation tape holding it on, figured i'd need it to clock my speed on certain sections

I do have a generic bicycle speedo but am having trouble getting it to work and mounted properly Thumbs Down

That should be OK then Wink
You don't need to look at your speedo for mod 1, just take the bend as fast as your comfortable with and pin it on the straight, easy

If they do refuse you, I'm afraid I can't help with the £15, but I'll send you some sympathy. Cool

I've never known them to check a bike, at the end of the day they're not mechanics, they see your MOT cert and assume that it's all good.

Definitely no MoT cert required, or insurance

You need theory certificate, CBT certificate, both parts of driving licence, and I think that's it.

500s are easier to ride than 125's especially for a bike bloke, much more stable.

Do you know anyone locally who can ride to the centre with you on their 500+ bike and let you put L plates on it then bin it on the swerve?

3 points and 60 quid if you ever get pulled, even for something else like a random stop etc...

Not sure what they'd say if you turned up with one L plate at Mod 1, probably tell you to clear off or get one sharpish.

Alpha-9. You don't live far from me.

How' bouts you buy a 500, I'll go collect it for you. Get your bike test on a Saturday and i'll come round, Ride your bike to test centre. Wait for you to do your test, Then ride it back.

Then same for mod 2.

Then you have a 5' for when you pass your test Mr. Green.

I agree, I would not want to risk being refused the exam for something as silly as this.

yeh i never had a back one.
I brought some, then it fell off the next day cos i fixed it badly. 6 months later took the front off to match and rode around for 2 years with no L's.
Wasn't much of an issue the couple times i was pulled (with JUST the front L plate, the old "well it fell off, sorry" line actually worked) but i know if you DO get picked up on it you'll be in trouble (fine, points, etc)

But then again you're not using it on a public road and therefore things like l plates, Insurance, MOT, Tax shouldn't be tested. Aslong as your vehicle is roadworthy (brakes working, Tyres safe for use, head bearings not so shafted that you cannot go from lock to lock without being stuck in the middle) then why should the examiner care if 2 minutes after passing your test, You get a ticket?
