Looking at one of these locally...it looks realy nice, has a supermoto setup too.

Obviously I like the DRZ, I like most supermotos Laughing How does this compare? Is it essentially an XT660 with a fatter body? Laughing

States around 130kg and 42hp. Thought that may be a little low as a DRZ SM states 146kg and 38hp but 200cc less Neutral

Are the TT600Rs good as any form of off road/road riding? Thumbs Up Karma

Look here for opinions:-

Supposedly heavy, but unless you can afford an up to the minute trailie, you're always going to be stuck with excess weight.

The DRZ is a barge as well, you tend not to notice once you get going.
I only get to off road on dry rocks and gravel, so no idea how weight affects mudplugging, other than it being a bastard to pick up.
I used to have a DR600, I liked it!

If you can find out, from the seller, who they're insured with, it might be worth a look. The downside, assuming it's legit, will be resale value. I've had a Q plate car, in the past, never had any problems insuring or MOTing it.

I had a DR650, kick start only. It was indeed a royal PITA to start, I think it had other issues to be honest, so I sold it soon after buying it. Mine had twin cans (original) and it did sound rather awesome Laughing .

Depends whether it's a 600 or 650, assuming you're talking about a DR.
If it's a DR600 motor it has a manual de-compressor lever on the handle bars. Turn the motor over until it's just passed TDC, pull de-compressor lever in, then jump up and down on the kick start.
You should also bear in mind that during the kicking part of this procedure do not give it any throttle, you may find yourself, involuntarily, doing a standing jump over the bike. Can easily break your ankle if it kicks back. I got away with a limp for a few days the first time it kicked back on me. The only time I ever had problems starting mine was when the engine was hot.

I have spent a lifetime kicking big singles and I am only 56.5 kg. You need to ease the bike over TDC and then commit yourself 100% to the kick.
BTW you know I have a titanium hip joint and why?

My problem was, I went straight from a 350 power valve to the DR, so being used to kicking the 2 smoke over, with a good handful of throttle, the inevitable happened! Rolling Eyes

imo - it's about the stuff you do before you start it, it's not about brute force or giving it 100%

1 - kick bike over slowly once or twice to loosen it up
2 - find the compression stroke, pull the decompressor in, push the kick down a bit, release the decompressor, as soon as you feel that it's bouncy, let the kick come back up then whack it down with a bit of speed with full throttle, you should hear a suction type sound, do this twice
3 - do as above, but with NO throttle and the ignition on, done

Has auto decomp on the kickstart which only opens from top, not when kickstart is lower down. Looks like an odd system Laughing

Somewhere I read that you should be at least 13 stone to kickstart a DR600.
Doesn't sound too far off when people that were around 10 stone tried to kickstart mine - though I did have the 'technique' advantage.

Ok, now twelve and a half stone and reckon I could still kickstart one, but yes, you do need a good bit of weight and power in your legs to get one going, along with the right technique.

colicabcadam:
I believe the DR has an accelerator pump, so presuming your #2 is to get some fuel in, you don't need to turn it over, just blip the throttle alone.

Having a minimum weight for a kickstart is pretty hilarious on its own.

Food for thought really.. Laughing Must gain weight

I was about 10.5 stone when I had my DR600, once you have the technique I don't think weight comes into it, (within reason).
It's like Ariel said you just need to commit to the kick, pussy footing around will result in either not starting it or a kick back.
The compression on my Gas Gas Trials feels quite high, although the kickstart is very short, (so not getting much leverage). If you don't commit to it it won't go passed TDC, but as I said once you get the knack you'll have no problems.
