Following on from this thread https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=252383

Would a standard production bike actually be able to loose a police helicopter.Even though the helicopters top speed is less than a lot of bikes they can go as the crow flies.i believe if its flown well the bike would stand no chance Very Happy Thoughts please Thumbs Up

No.

Unless the bike goes into a series of underground tunnels and the chopper loses sight of it.

Most choppers can do near 200mph which is quicker than any production bike and even then, as the crow flies is even quicker average speed.

The biker goes too near an airport or something and the chopper won't be allowed to follow.

You are better off taking your helmet off and riding a bit dangerously and they will back off on the ground and you are more likely to ditch the chopper. They can't stay in the air as long as a tank of petrol as well.

Yes, so long as you are near some tunnels, underground car-parks, airfields or on any road the Romans built Smile

No chance in hell of outrunning, unless they need to call it off because they're low on fuel or something.
Outsmarting? Maybe...
Ditching the bike and going in to a block of flats/heavily populated area seems to be the most successful tactic in police helicopter evasion. Wink

nah, helicopter will keep up just fine,

as said in above with my only addition of:

bikes are (generally) limited to the roads in residential or town centers or city centers, so if you want to get from the south east corner of say london city center you have to follow the angles of the roads to get to the north west corner.

a helicopter will just hover over the buildings keeping you insight going in a fairly straight line.

this is where the "fuel" arguement could begin. but unlikely you'd need to refill before they ran out.

According to google. The MD902, used by many UK forces, has a tank range of 290 nautical miles and a top speed of 155mph.So you might need to stop for fuel somewhere in the chase Very Happy or do a constant 155 Dance!

Most helicopters have a top speed of around 200mph. Getting a bike to go that fast is very difficult on a runway with no traffic.

The only way to avoid a helicopter is to ride to Heathrow or Gatwick or something.

West Mercia's Eurocopter has a maximum range of 340nm, maximum endurance is 3.35 hours...

How long does a full tank on a bike last at full blast..?

This is the way! I've seen a couple of cop shows where they've been unable to cross heathrow - just head back and forth there.

I think that the range or speed doesn't matter at all. Each police unit has a radio. So if they want to, they can just call an police car ahead to do something about it. Cool

Good disappearing act. I think he U-turned and the helicopter missed it.

Did anyone spot how many eyes the rider had?

Mine? About 50miles/13mins, but at full power the rear tyre will probably give up before the juice runs out.
