My arse/tail bone was well sore after about a 100 mile ride i did yesterday, so i was wondering what the cheapest method would be to improve comfort.
Did a search and someone recommended a saddle saver, which is designed for horse riders but are supposedly much mor comfortable and cheaper, something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quality-Soft-Fur-Saddle-Seat-Saver-All-Colours-Sizes-Available-/390444059382?pt=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&var=&hash=item5ae8478af6

Or are there better options? Dont mind making something if i need to.

Sheep skin seems to be the most common way.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=201694

Someone did make something out of bicycle gel seat covers too, it looked absolutely fucking hilarious Laughing Laughing - like he had hidden dildos under his seat but he claimed it was comfortable.

EDIT this thread - pretty damn funny:

There's a common mod on the Savage where the nose of the seat is raised an inch or so - this stops the "hip rolling forward" feeling. Maybe there's something similar for the XV?

Learn to move around more on your seat, on your bike (and mine) because you are fairly upright and your arms and knees/feet are at more or less 90 degrees you can find that your weight bears straight down through your spine.

Shifting position will help this.

One trick I often use is to strap a bag or cushion to the pillion seat which effectively gives me a backrest and means I can lean back and shift that pressure every now and again. Move your feet back and to on the pegs (toe to front, heel to front etc), rest your left forearm on your left thigh and lean slightly forwards.

All of these things will ease the pressure off your spine and should help ease the tailbone!

One last thing, although my tank range is more I usually do 100 miles between fillups and when I stop I take a few minutes to get off the bike, walk around and stretch a bit. Hope this helps.

Find a car boot sale, you can pick up a sheepskin and make your own for a few quid.

If cheap is your main criteria, go down to the £1 shop, buy 2 bead-filled travel neck pillows, arrange them to your liking, then duct tape them together. Total cost £2.20 or so including the tape.

I dont know what the world is coming to. Men are no longer men. Fluffy sheep skin seat covers to stop your piles aching on a bike. Next you'll all be walking around like this guy:

Bring back the real men of BCF. You're all Nancys!

I bought one of these:-

https://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2009/4/16/1239871311962/Chips-in-a-deep-fat-fryer-001.jpg

And lots of this:-

https://www.ocado.com/catalog/images-hires/44121011_H.jpg?identifier=38732407d38373b7309faf59f44d34ec

And as well as having delicious chips whenever I wanted, I also found my saddle getting more and more comfortable. I'm not sure by what mechanism it's working but it really does Thumbs Up Although it also seems to make my leathers shrink Sad

What you do is get a triangular frame made of steel flatbar which is slightly wider than your buttocks at the widest point. At the front point of the frame you attach a pivot. At the rear two points you attach a large coil spring. You attach the triangle to the bike frame by the pivot and springs so it is free to move round the pivot while floating on the springs.

You then stretch more, longer springs horizontally across the triangular frame, cover them with a generous layer of wadded horsehair then top it off with a leather cover stretched over the whole lot and rivetted on.

Works for me.

Strange as it may seem if you get the seamless underwear or compression stuff it can help with long distance touring.

Don't you just get a massively soggy arse in the rain if you have a sheepskin cover on your seat?

It what's always put me off having a corbin seat or similar, they always seem to be full of holes, so i just think they'll be like a sponge...
