Seat Cowl nightmare - Stripping paint from plastic?

Basically I painted this to Honda Ross white, the colour was wrong, got sent a new can, but its all gone wrong.

It seems to have reacted with the layer beneath, weird as its from the same supplier.

I need to strip it back to the plastic and start again.

What can I use that won't damage the plastic?

Wait until it's DRY not touch dry

use small kitchen pad, the one that most people use to do their washing up

not a Brillo a scour i think it's called, just keep rubbing until it comes off

then what ever bit's you are left with use a very very light bit of rubbing down paper, or better still wet & dry should take it off smoothly and damage free

You can use Nitromors but be very careful - if you leave it on too long, it will damage the plastic. I'd put a thin layer on and, when the paint starts to "bubble", wash it off. Repeat if required.

The scourer/wet and dry idea is what I thought, just hoped there was a quick way.

I suppose quick normally means cock up....

Brake fluid.

Put some on a rag and wipe the fresh paint off. Then rinse it off with a hose & fairy liquid after. Definately plastic safe as the bottles are made of plastic.

Brake fluid is the worlds best paint stripper.

fairly fresh paint just 800 grit wet and dry it, it'll be of in 10-15 minutes

Don't just re - primer it wont be enough and may react to the new paint

clean it up as i said, use some Medium Grit wet and dry with some brake fluid or Petrol would even be better.

Once you have cleaned it all up wash it with water then let it naturally dry in the sun ( that's if we ever have any again this year )
then re- primer and paint, then it will be fine

You can buy plastic only strippers or use nitro mores but it can eat the plastic if you leave it to long.

As long as it hasn't run really badly it will be best to let it dry .Give it a couple if days .(lets all the solvents evaporate)Then rub it down you can start with about 400 but finish with 800grit .

When you apply the paint the couple should be very light so very little coverage .Build it up slowly until it is covered ie it looks the right colour and none of the repairs or scratches are visible then apply two or three wet coats and allow to dry.

Allow 5-10 mins between coats .

I used 400, the 800, got it right down, then 2 dust coats of the plastic adhesion primer where the plastic showed through, then 3light coats of primer. Then it went dark.

Left 15 mins between coats and so far so good.

Needs a few more coats of primer to cover all imperfetions/hide where the bla plastic woe through.

Should be sorted by the weekend.
