Ste is right, SORN costs nothing and will cover you for the interim.
If you've had the bike for the 19 days it has been untaxed, your fine is probably already on its way to you - although it may have gone to the previous keeper! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

SORN - Statutory Off Road Notification.
Basically, if your tax is due to run out and you do not intend to ride on the road or renew it, you have to let the DVLA know by sending them a SORN notification. You can do it at the Post Office too.
SORN lasts for 12 months, but you can end it sooner just by getting a new tax disc.
If you don't do SORN or tax your bike, DVLA will issue a fine something like 14 days after the tax ran out.
Should you declare SORN then ride on the road and get caught, yo can expect an even bigger fine and possibly your bike impounded depending how/where you get caught.
Check out www.dvla.gov.uk . ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

My C90 was off the road for 6 months with no tax and I didn't declare it as SORN. When I finally got round to tax it again I just went to the post office and showed them the MOT certificate, insurance certificate and I fobbed her off with the V5 saying I'd only just bought the bike ____________________ A big enough hammer fixes anything! |

Given that the fines for failure to tax your vehicle can range into four figures, and that it costs a pittance to tax a bike (relatively speaking), IMHO you're chancing your luck by not taxing it. Of course, if the vehicle is still registered to the previous owner, happy days, but I wouldn't count on that saving your backside! ____________________ My Old CBR400RR | Bike Oil FAQ | Petrol FAQ |
