I have my TT600R and have insured my friend on it, they asked for a copy of his licence, thats fine.. but now they want proof its restricted. I hate this restriction shit, it makes like 40hp maximum when ignition isn't retarded, less when it is.

I'm about to send them a paint document with "My bike is 33hp, this has as much legal bearing as an FI international certificate"

Insurance being the arses they are...probably won't accept this and might only accept a garage headed paper saying its restricted or a dyno run, both of which I won't pay for and neither will they.

If they cancel my policy would they be in the wrong? Or would it be me because I haven't paid for proof. Quite happy to restrict it, it won't be ridden by me for a while... its only 1 washer.

Basically, can someone confirm I can send this in and it has the same legal bearing?

Yes it has the same legal bearing, however from the standpoint of an insurance company the FI cert gives the appearance that a commercially accepted restrictor has been fitted by an FI approved fitter, whereas your home produced guff is merely an attempt to defraud them. IF you get found out expect a shitstorm in terms of cancellation of policy, and possible future ramifications in terms of "refused insurance" and higher premiums.

TL;DR

Either fit some restriction the insurers accept and get it dynoed as proof (take em out later if ya like, your call if he's pulled/has an accident and there's arsey coppers and insurers tho) or tell your mate it can't be done because your insurers are an arse.

Should say, it will be restricted. Quite happily, just the garage want £65 to strip it down and see this washer and then want probably £50~ for a dyno print out. Either way it costs me an unwanted amount.

If it has the same legal bearing, I'll send them this...and let them know that they can accept this etc

Best thing is just phone the fucking idiots. They asked me to prove my restriction, I gave em a bell and as follows..

"so can you prove its restricted?"
Me; "Nah mate can't prove anything but it is restricted "
them; "oh okay then no worries, thats fine your bill will come out blah blah"

Just make sure the wording doesn't look like your trying to present a forged FI or other cert for them to get their knickers in a twist about.

I'd word it as a declaration. They still might not accept it as proof, but then they accept your declaration that you haven't had any non-driving convictions without a cert from the cop shop, or that you don't suffer incurable covdude's disease without being certified...

Ask CaNsA if Nobcat Ltd can do you an invoice for fitting the magic washer. Wink

SRSLY though, ask them what they consider to be "proof".

"The certificate or a dyno print out" is what they will accept.

Fired an email to my insurer with a lot of guff... also included this legit restriction certificate.

https://yesterdaystheory.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/33hp.png

Which got the reply..

Code:
We thank you for your email but regret to advise that your Insurers still require documentary proof that your bike is restricted to 33bhp and if we do not receive this in the next 7 days then we have no alternative but to cancel all cover under your policy.  A seven day cancellation letter with regards to this has been issued to you today.

The documentary proof that is acceptable to your Insurers is either a copy of the restriction certificate or a rolling road report.

We look forward to receiving either of the above in the next 7 days to prevent cancellation of your policy.

So I obviously replied with something...

Then about 10 minutes later...one more email in my inbox!

Code:
We thank you for your email and would advise that we have referred your case to your Insurers, KGM, regarding  the restriction certificate for your new bike.   They have agreed, in this instance only, to accept your email confirming that the bike is restricted to 33bhp and that you are driving within conditions of your bike licence.  We have therefore noted our records accordingly.

However, if you make any future changes of bikes under your policy where a restriction certificate or rolling road report will be required they have asked that we receive this piece of documentation first before we proceed to make any changes to your policy.

Many thanks.

Ok the email reply was super win, in fact (although there may well be some inaccuracies, which any of the forum oracles may well rip to shit) it is still winning. Take that insurance Middle Finger Mr. Green Middle Finger

My favourite particular quote..

If you have any issues with this, please tell the underwriters to call me as your team couldn't distinguish between the import version and the UK version and also seem to not know about the law regarding <25kW licences. Given the accidents on my record, do you really think I would be stupid enough to ride outside the terms of my licence?

You're with KGM? I'm with them through Bikesure and they never asked for proof of restriction Confused in fact none of the insurers have despite me declaring it, guess your just unlucky and they felt like making you jump a few hoops.

I jump hoops for insurance on a regular basis.

They love me Laughing

Ah well, another issue sorted in the world of insurance. KGM aren't too bad, HR Insurance, never bothered me before, always cheap and reliable. Great to deal with etc... now they appear to have changed Thumbs Down
