 |
|
Hello!
The chain on my 125 has worked itself loose to the point of a jerky throttle and a horrid vibration. Me being the wimp I am I would usually go to my dealer to have it adjusted, but I am away from home at the moment
Is it wise to bite the bullet and sort it out my self, and if so, what tips do you all have?
cheers

It's a really simple job. There are loads of tutorials on youtube.
Have you got the owners manual for the bike? Mine tells you how to go about checking and adjusting the chain. ____________________ CBT 15/6/2011 Theory Test Passed 6/2/2012 Module 1 Passed 11/6/2012

Looked a bit at youtube and I think I have it sussed. Just one question, how tight should the axle nut be?
I looked at the manual, but its barely in English and it doesn't go into detail about the chain

No need to elaborate on whats been said but a good tip is to use a sharpie marker to draw a little line vertically on the end of your tension nuts. That way you can keep an eye on their position so you know you have done them both the same.

Like so. You know then if the black marks are in the same position on both sides your wheels straight. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

Sort of on topic has anyone any step by step advice of adjusting chain tension with only a side stand?
This is for my lad who's currently stuck at his gf with a too slack chain. So, no sympathy from me then, numpty should indulge in some regular checks and maintenance (bike and gf, boom boom*).
I'm not too happy with his suggestion of strapping a paddock stand to my bike and taking it round for him (it's about 15 miles!). Going up after work anyhow to see if he's sorted it.
If it was me I'd just adjust it with the tension/adjusters on the side stand. At a push lever it on the side stand and front wheel and put an axle stand to raise the back wheel (forming a narrow triangle of 3 points of support). Anything I'm missing?
Thanks.

same process as with a centre/paddock stand, i adjust mine on the side stand....in fact my manual states to check it while on the side stand. ____________________ Yamaha FZS600 Fazer (gone but not forgotten). Current - Kawasaki ZX6R A1P |
