I bought a honda hornet earlier today and fitted the washers between the carbs and engine. When i went to fire the bike up it was idling a bit low then cut out.
Now when ever I try to start it the engine occasionally fires but cuts out straight away.
I've tried adjusting the idle screw (yellow star shaped screw in the center of the four carbs) but doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any ideas?

Did you fit them yourself? If so, you may have got some dirt into the pilot jets or something.

If not then I'm not sure, but my bike won't idle properly when it is cold, so take it for a ride around the block then come back and see what it is like?

Did your washers have the hole in the middle or off-set from centre? If they are off-set, try putting the hole lowest.

I'll have to take the carbs off and give them a good clean, I'd love to take it for a ride but i cant even get it to start without cutting out straight away! Haha.

I did fit them myself, and set the washer so the offset hole was bottom center like they were in the old bike.

Yeah you have to turn the idle up. Are you sure you are turning the right one?? Usually its connected via a long piece of twisty wire and you just turn it.

On the hornet to fit the wshers to the carbs do you have to take the tank off?

If so it may be that you have kinked or trapped a fuel line and the engine is starving of fuel.

Yeah fuel tank had to come off but the pipe doesn't cross under it, pretty sure its not trapped under it. Cheers anyway!

Reserve does use the vacuum tap, Prime doesn't.

On is 6'o'clock, res is 9'o'clock and prime is 12'o'clock on my bandit. Although it doesn't say prime.

Did you drain the carbs before you did the restrictors?

Would the carbs empty out just from the air, I mean there is quite a bit of fuel in there...?

Are you sure dude?, on mine and every other Bandit I've seen On is 6o'clock, Reserve is 12o'clock and Prime is 3o'clock and they are all stamped on the tap, or have you had a replacement.

try taking the wahers out and set it back to how it was and see if it runs ok, then adjust the idle so its running fast, an extra 1000 rpm should do it, then refit the washers without adjusting any thing, making sure you keep everything clean and dust free

Mines a 400 but yeah, 100%. And I have had three different taps altogether now and they have all been the same. From standard, there is a screw blocking you from using the prime function but you can either take out the screw or saw off half of the lever.

Just a hunch as it may help if the carbs are struggling for fuel. Worth trying anything Laughing
