 |
|
Well, since I'm probably not going to be able to buy a new exhaust for my er5 anytime soon, is it possible to spray the downpipes black, to their original colour?
My bikes not got a huge amount of rust, more or less just surface corrosion, nothing deep, bu thow would I go about doing it.
Anyone got any advice on doing ti, what to buy and what to do?
Thanks in advance |

Yup, can't imagine how they'd look yellow
They were originally black, so thats what I'm after. Either spraying or even painting, whatever anyone recommends

Get some wet and dry paper and just smooth them down a bit to get the rust off. Get some BBQ spray paint from B&Q and paint them with that, easy. |

Halfords do a tub of rust remover (it's a green gunge). I bought it after Korn recommended it. Did the job great. Then sand them down as much as you can then apply autosol once they're rust free to get them shiney! ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Ah the old problems of rusted downpipes on an ER-5.
They all rust no matter how well you look after your bike, but when I owned my ER-5 I got some high temp paint and painted them using that.
Problem is the exhausts on the ER-5 is so dodgy the rust will come back within a few months!
If you were to replace the exhaust I can highly recommend the Motad Nexxus, (which is about £250 complete) its fully stainless steel so you won't get that problem with it.
Hope that helps,
Craig. |

Instigator, you'll probably run into Mark (Acidburnz) on one of the next rideouts. His ER-5 has the full Remus system on it. Sounds great! Stainless steel pipes too, so no rusting. Not sure how much he paid. I'm sure it was around the £400 mark though. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Trouble is. All japanese mild steel exhaust systems rot from the inside. You can paint them as much as you want, they will eventually dissolve into a pile of flaky bits. Epecially the collector box. The only ones that don't are on bikes that are burning shitloads of oil. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Ive just finished spraying MY nsr exahust system,
i used an angle grinder with a wire brush fitted and carefully after removing them from the bike rmeoved all rust off the pipe. then i primed it twice and used a can of heat proof black paint, (£4 a can)
and i now have a nice clean rust free exahaust..until winter gets its mits on it again
its simple to do...i did it lol
and cost me a whole £8 for primer and heat proof paint. ____________________ Insta - FemFeral |
