Hi All,

I'm currently commuting between Hinckley and Warwick daily on my XJ 600, that's about 25 miles each way, down the M69 and A46.
I've been putting off thinking about winter, but it's inevitable, I don't have another way to get there.

So, gonna need some new kit methinks, my trousers and jacket are ok I think. Just been thinking of getting base layers, mid layers, heated grips, new gloves, maybe some of them dirt bike handlebar mud guard things that kind of block the wind too.
Think that's about it, are there any more things I need? What is the priority, what do I need first?
I'm currently looking at getting new gloves as my fingers are already getting numb, I just have some generic HG gloves atm.
I've got about £200 to spend now, and will try and save £50 each month for gear leading up to xmas.

So, main questions are, whats most important to get first? What brand is best for my budget? Where can I get all this stuff?

Thanks in advance for the help Wink

Bar muffs and heated grips means you will have warm dry hands and not need to buy winter gloves.

A screen to keep the wind off if it is a XJ600N? Ignore if it's a pre-divvie.

Textiles with a fleece and thermals underneath.

Windproof neck tube.

Jobs a good'un.

I'll jump in with Army surplus and the use of layers. You need layers to retain warmth and keep out drafts.

I find a neck piece is essential, try and get one that covers your shoulders.

One of stinkwheel's post on clothing still sticks with me where he laid out all his kit. Sadly picture not available (I looked). Something similar here in this thread and this thread, worth a read.

If you can't get thermal leggings you can use stockings!

I can also recommend the lobster 2 finger gloves. I haven't got heated grips and haven't needed them with these type of gloves.

Thumbs Up

Priorities are stay dry and warm, choose your clothing to suit.
And if your hands are getting numb already I don't fancy your chances when it gets in sub zeros.

I recommend Marks and Spencer extra warm thermal base layer ^^ May cost £40, but the difference between them and a cheap £10 set is amazing and makes the coldest most miserable rides just that bit more warm and snuggly ^^
