Hey guys, just wondering what the longest period of time is that you've spent waiting for insurance to sort their crap out and get payments sorted Smile?

I've just had a phone call this morning from the solicitors dealing with a claim of mine, saying that I should receive my cheque within the next week or so, as they've received payment now.

The accident happened in mid-October last year, so by the time it goes into my bank account it'll have been over 11 months from collision to payout!

Anybody else had anything similar or worse?

yeh i've had one go on for well over a year..

coming off a roundabout in traffic coming home from college. doing less than 30mph, in line, etc..

as i exit im suddenly hit in my rear passenger quarter by a van thats flew onto the roundabout, the car is spun round, flipped over and i end up a way down the d/c resting on my side.

i had 2 witnesses, from cars behind, one being a social worker.

police were useless. pushed my car onto its wheels, pushed it off the road then buggered off and left me on my own whilst im sitting there in shock after being dragged out of the windscreen by people that stopped. one even suggested i go have a drink in the nearby pub.

n.b. the sliproad the van came from is the exit of said pub yet they werent even breathalysed. Evil or Very Mad

im in shock, phone battery dead and left with a crashed car on the side of the road. thanks police.

luckily i wasnt badly injured. bit of whiplash etc.. but no one knew that.

i had to wait for my mum to arrive (someone that stopped lent me their phone to call her) and then she took me to the hospital.

yes in hindsight i should have just called an ambulance, but i was young and it was my 1st accident so the first people i wanted to call were my parents.

so anyway.. proceedings start and the van driver decides to, months down the line change his story and say i pulled out in front of him. now considering the damage to my car was my rear passenger side quarter id love to know how i could have managed that unless i was reversing onto it!!!

went to court, he didnt even turn up.. finally got sorted well over a year after the event.

the whole system makes me sick, not only the blatant mistreatment of myself, obviously stereotyped as a 'young driver' so it MUST have been my fault and so ignored by the police and a guy who could have easily killed me decides to obviously lie on official documentation and the courts couldnt give a shit.

horrible experience.

Wow, that sucks!

The guy who went into the back of me just refused to talk to his insurance company or anybody about the accident, so obviously his insurance didn't wanna pay out without hearing his side of the story. They were given a deadline of today though, so they've decided that it's not worth pratting around any more and have just paid up.

Ridiculous though because it was only a small incident. At traffic lights, they turned to green, I was about to pull off as he came from behind and went into me. He couldn't have been moving any more than 10mph and I didn't even come off, in fact I barely moved.

I fixed the bike myself for around £100.

Insurance is paying out £600.

Whilst it's inconvenient that I've waited so long and it's hugely delayed me passing my test, I'm not gonna complain when the money goes into my bank so that I can get a few extra shiny play toys for my next bike Very Happy.

mate of mine bought a brand new YBR to learn on, binned it 3 weeks later because some tool in a van pulled out on him (didn't collide tho). The van driver gave his insurance details at the scene & there was an off-duty copper stood by who saw it all. My mate hurt his hip, ripped his brand new trousers & suffed his brand new helmet. Since the accident (last September), the van driver has changed his story - claims he was a passer-by & only stopped to see if my mate was alright after being knocked off by someone else. The copper claims he's not a reliable enough witness now (??) & although my mate was hurt, he's still not had a medical exam (when he does, it'll simply show he's not hurt anymore). Since all this, he's done DAS & passed his test - so when (if) he finally gets his YBR back & repaired, he no longer needs it. The van driver's insurance company is Aviva - the funniest part is that my mate works for Aviva!

Might be worth hanging on to a bit of it and seeing how the claim affects your insurance premium. Did you or he pay your excess? (so in theory* you have a clean slate).

Just a thought Thumbs Up

Good news getting it sorted.

Thumbs Up

* theory and insurance companies do not go together, they are a law unto themselves. Best try the compare sites (e.g. meerkats) to check renewal quotes.

Everywhere I've checked has still gave me reasonable enough premiums (well, except for calling up Carole Nash of course.. but the compare ones haven't been too shabby).

I've not paid anything, so I assume his company will have paid excess.

Cheers

Over a year for a perfectly simple shunt where liability was clear and admitted, costs were quickly established and it was just a question of when they'd have to pay. Useless twunts, the whole lot of them.

14 months and counting for me so far. Had a pretty minor car accident. 50/50 fault. Slow speed so only bodywork was damaged. No claims made though.

Other party claimed personal injury for him and his passanger though Rolling Eyes and so it's been dragging on which is a pain in the proverbial because there isn't ever an option for 'ongoing' when trying to get new insurance.

Ah no my mistake. After a quick phone call it turns out the claim against me was settled. My insurer just didn't think to tell me.

So apparently saying you've got neck pain and being advised to take paracetamol by the doctor who wants you to fuck off and stop wasting his time gets you a cheque for £5k now.

Even if the accident was deemed to be 50% your fault.

Thumbs Down
