I bought a Schuberth S2 from Hein Gericke in their 'being sold' sale, and I'm having serious problems with wind noise, ironic as its meant to be one of the quietest helmets out there!
I use the included chin flap, but this is very rigid and moves around when you put the helmet on, and I can never get it in the right place with my finger
I'm going to send an email off to Schuberth but anywhere above 40mph I have a howling noise in the helmet - almost like thunder next to my ears, even with the tunes on it is still very noticeable. The S2 is easily louder than my £80 HJC that it replaced.
Does anyone have any experience of this? I know earplugs are the logical solution but I'd like to get the quietest helmets to work by itself before I consider those!
Thanks, Tom ____________________ 1992 ZXR 400 |

barrkel had the same issue with the C3 model:
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3306280#3306280
I was looking at Schuberth helmets as they were generally regarded as the quietest helmets. I have an AGV S4 SV which is annoying as hell.
Guess i'll have to keep looking
Can't say I remember seeing anyone other threads recently mentioning the helmet, sorry.
I'm guessing contacting Schuberth might be the best way forward. ____________________ Current Bikes: ZX7r 97 (Black Beauty), VFR400 NC24 (The banana)

Got any sort of screen on your bike ?
They can create massive noise on helmets. As a helmet is designed for clear airflow.
If you have a screen, try ducking under it or standing on the pegs and see what happens.
Mine goes from noisy to super quiet when in clean air. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Are you sure it's the right size? It's ok picking it up a bit cheaper but not for the sake of "it'll do".
I mention this because I tried a Schuberth a few years ago when they were at the NEC show. They seemed to put a lot of empahasis on measuring heads in the right place and getting the helmet right size.
That said I didn't quite have a Schuberth shaped head. Sad really as I would have really liked a really quiet flip front helmet.
Would like to know what Schuberth's reply is. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

The Schuberth C3 is normally over 400 (over 500 for some shell decorations). It's allegedly quite quiet.
I think the problem with my C3's noise is that my neck is basically too small. It doesn't fill in enough of the neck hole, and leaves enough nooks and crannies to "boom". At speed, if I put my hand up and touch under my chin to either side of the helmet, the noise goes right down on that side. The manual (a 300 page book, albeit in 6 languages) helpfully states "If you have a narrow neck, it is advisable to use a scarf in addition". Having a bulky scarf isn't really desirable for me - one of the good things about the C3 is its relatively smaller size, enabling more neck motion. Add a scarf and I'd lose that again. It would also be yet another thing to get wet in the rain (the biggest weakness of my C3); and more skin to overheat in hot weather.
I normally wear a balaclava for colder weather or to protect against insects getting embedded in my neck, and it doesn't help. I'm currently considering gluing some foam to the neck hole to reduce the noise, and spending a bunch of money on custom molded ear plugs - disposable ear plugs are a pain in the ear, literally. I ride 4-8 times a day, and almost every time I've reused plugs I've gotten a mild ear infection / irritation in one or the other ears for a few days. Using fresh plugs every time quickly adds up to hundreds of pounds a year, hence spending more money on longer lasting solutions. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4
