I am about to replace my crankcase for one with no split in it but can someone tell me if the crankshaft plain bearings that are currently with the crankshaft stay with the crankshaft or will the new crankcase require me to measure up for new ones?
Thanks.

Simple answer is that you will have to measure everything to select the correct bearings.

Naming the bike and a couple of photos will get you a better answer. I've never seem a crankcase without a split, how else would you get anything inside there?

Touchy.

The reason you struggle to get a sensible reply is fairly obvious. SISO.

Karma so the bike is a gt550.............see telepathy really does work!!

bearing shells are graded by number or colour or both, and should be matched.

your bike ( gt550 ) uses the lower crankcase and upper crankcase to form the "holes "for the bearing shells ( mains ), which are line bored during manufacture, so are a matched pair.

other bikes may use a crankshaft "ladder" means of securing the bearing shells, which are line bored during mnanufacture and are a matched pair.

do you see the proble,m?? Very Happy

shells are selected according to shaft journal diameter ( graded ) which is indicated on the shaft, with the outside diameter ( inside dia of bearing "hole" ) indicated on the casting.

using thios info and a selection table, the corredct shells are seklected giving the corredct runnin clearance ( 0.3 thouish )

do you now see your problem. Very Happy

some pics would be wonderfull.

sorry for the keyitiss, large fingers etc......... Cool
