Evil or Very Mad So riding to work this morning coming over the bridge into sunderland, light turns red so I stop...ya know, as you do.

Luckily i've been practicing habbits for mod 2 and checking my mirrors on slowing as suddenly some dozy bint is screeching her tyres and had obviously been in la la land (probably thinking about what greasy pile of turd she wanted for breakfast) and not seen the red light or me stationary

Thank fook i checked my mirrors and moved forward a bit as she would have slammed right into the back of me, never seen the point much before but defo do now!

This is something I always do driving and imagine it would be significantly more important on a bike. Glad you didn't get shunted!

I nearly went into the back of someone yesterday because I didn't notice the additional set of lights, there's like 4 sets right near each other

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=melton+road+leicester&hl=en&ll=52.650979,-1.121635&spn=0.067796,0.132351&sll=51.517703,-0.131336&sspn=0.03477,0.066175&hnear=Melton+Rd,+Leicester,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=13&layer=c&cbll=52.65047,-1.121965&panoid=CSpnIUG8wQZG-Uv7DssU1g&cbp=12,203.19,,2,0.64

and that's an OLD image, even more further up now

Eitherway, didn't touch his car, braked so hard it made me stand up on my pegs though Razz

I don't like riding in the morning much, cold and half asleep Thumbs Down

Surely the cold wakes you up?! I prescribe a dose of 'get to bed early'

Twice today already I've had 2 women drivers try to kill me...first one pulled out of a petrol station in front of me, thankfully I managed to brake in time....the second one some bird coming the other way decided she couldn't be arsed to wait behind the parked car on her side of the road and wait for me to go by, instead pulling out right in front of me missing my leg by millimetres!!.

On the whole women drivers are ok, but I don't know what it is but they just dont appear to be able to see/react to motorbikes.....its as if they see us as cycles that are slow moving so they can just pull out in good time.

Today has been the first time I've been genuinely scared on the bike . Didn't help that it had been raining and the roads were greasy.

Were you in neutral? As per that other thread, if not do you think you'd have got out of the way in time? This is one of the reasons I tend not to...

What was your road position like? Manly and dominant, or mousy and in the gutter?

If in doubt, ride on the divider. If they're going to ram you, at least you'll get to say "I was literally in the middle of the road."

i got a lift last night from a female pall , a 70 ml round trip .
i was near shitting myself ! i often go a little fast on my busa but theres a time & a place .
last night a few of her faults were 55 mph in a 30 zone , sometimes 30 - 40 in a 60 zone , driving between 3-4 meters behind the car in front . doing 60 in a nsl road with a car in front with its right hand indicator on with no thought to slow down ! that led to an emergency stop !
passing a bicycle far to close , went past a speed camera at 40 in a 30 zone don't know how it never went off . i got the impression that sometimes she would try to do the right speed through guess work with no thought to actually look down & use the speedo lol .
the whole trip was like that , never again shall i take a lift from her !

I was bang in the middle of my side of the road......I was just gobsmacked when I saw her pull out. I can only assume she thought I would see her pull out and then move over towards the kerb, but I didn't.

I purposefully don't ride in the gutter cos of situations like this or where cars behind decide theres enough space to pass without going onto the other side of the road.

I was just cringing waiting for her car to clip my bike somewhere as she passed.

She didn't though, so there was enough room.

Pick one: co-operate to make room (and get yourself as far away from hazards), or make it absolutely clear that there isn't and you're not giving way.

L plates are also an invitation to shove you into the gutter, hint hint. Wink

There really was only room because I broke which just about gave her time to duck in around the car 'just' avoiding hitting me by what must have been millimetres. If I hadn't have broke and been on the ball I'd have been taken out.

I never put it in neutral unless i'm warming the bike up.

at a stop or lights I always leave it in gear with the clutch in, parking up in places I leave it in gear out of fear of it rolling off the side stand (plus potential to delay someone nicking it by a few miliseconds if they don't have a clue why the wheels won't turn)

I had a cyclist go into the back of me yesterday.
Clearly wasn't paying attention and it was 8am, obviously no damage but it goes to show it's not just cagers who do it

After reading a few scary stories with people on motorbikes being rear-ended. I always filter now, to avoid being rear-ended.

I know for a fact if I get rear-ended at 30MPH, I'll have a broken back, or worse. Always watch my mirrors if I'm the first one at lights. With my hand on the rev, ready to go if they don't appear to be stopping.

I should probably stop reading horror stories about motorbikes on here, but heck. It gives me good ideas of what to look out for. Thumbs Up

If you had full gear on (which you should have?), I would've let her bump the back of your bike - you would've been fine and would've got a new bike out of it, and it would teach that bitch a lesson!
