I have put some new mini indicators on my mtx 125 but they won't flash and only stay on full. Anybody know what I have done wrong?? I have put the old ones back on and they flash properly.

If the new indicators have a different current draw, you'll either need to replace the flasher relay or buy some load resistors.

Change the flasher relay to a multi wattage type, aka constant rate flasher unit IIRC or universal flasher type.

Do a search on eBay or the like, can be had for ballpark £5.

This will sort out the led flashing issue.
Also useful if you mix standard wire element bulbs and led ones.

are the new ones LED indicators?

If so you'll need to swap out the relay for one suitable for LED lights, the draw is completely different

...but I bet the wattage is different to the originals.
So the simplest thing is top put a mutli wattage don't care what you put on the end of it to flash relay.

So I am looking at changing it to one that is suitable for led use then?

Any other wattage, so could be led or other bulb.
What part of multi wattage are you having issues with?

My right indicator still doesn't flash

It started flashing when I revved over 5k
Then it did from over 2k
Now it stays opaque regardless of the revs

Da fuq
After crashing

With stock indi's and new ones (on the front back never been changed)

please someone, it's been months.

Have had a look at the current unit and is 20 amp and the new indicator bulbs are 10 amp so surely with only two indicators on at any given time surely there should be enough power to operate them no??? Not arguing with ya just can't see why they won't work and finding it very frustrating !!!!!!

It works with the original bulbs and not with the new ones because the flasher unit is designed for a certain wattage.

Power (wattage) = Volts x Current (amps).

I'm guessing you may find original bulbs are rated at 21w, new ones may only be 5w or 10w.

The universal ones don't care about the wattage.

Have searched on eBay for multi wattage relay and can only see ones suitable for led so is this what I need? Also mine is only two pin does this matter or will a three pin suit if I deck it to the frame or any other suitable earth point? Why is this so friggin difficult?? If I know exactly what to buy I will by the fucking thing and stick it in and problem solved. I understand that the draw is wrong. The relay I am now using is not suitable for the new indicators I get that so how do I solve that?? What exactly do I need to rectify this. Aaaarrgg!!! SadSadSad

Stating LED indicators is just an indication of lower wattage/current as that is what is generally available as aftermarket replacements now.

If you extend the search you come across something like this from GetGeared.co.uk...
https://www.getgeared.co.uk/core/media/media.nl?id=2411&c=731612&h=4a7f557e9994c09f59aaclick on image for link

Then there is this from sportsbikeshop.co.uk...
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/product_images/bike-it_led-indicator-relays.jpgclick on image for link

I have bought bits from sportsbikeshop.co.uk in the past and it was ok.

I see also on sportsbikeshop.co.uk there is the ability to ask questions and get a reply so maybe that's an option for you to clarify if suitable for your needs.

I do believe someone on here replaced indicators with a mix of new led and existing filament. Maybe do a search on here if you haven't already?

HTH, best of luck sorting Thumbs Up

That's what I have done and def does the job. Just wish the pleb on eBay would have told me that And saved the hassle. No reply to the messages I sent him. No feedback for him then!!! Goes to show its always best to ask someone before you try any mods and find out what you need first.

So I installed the new flasher unit and all worked fine. Now though when the bike is running the indicators flash far to fast. When the engine isn't running and ignition is on they are perfect. WTF????

If I had to hazard a guess on that, I'd say the increased system voltage when the engine is running and charging the battery is responsible for the effect you've described. Which also suggests that the new relay isn't as good as it could be...

Right, pay attention!
I bought new "mini" indicators for my CBR6.
After I fitted them they flashed too fast.
The reason they flashed too fast was that the original bulbs were 23W items, the bulbs in the "mini" indicators were 6W items.
I bought a box of twelve 23W bulbs suitable for the "mini" indicators, for less than a fiver, the propblem dissappeared.

What MAP is telling you is factually correct but all you need to do is fit four bulbs of the correct wattage!

If the OP bought a multi-wattage type as advised then it won't be dependent on the bulbs because it'll be an electronically timed flash cycle rather than a cycle dependent on a bimetallic strip heating up though...

That is what I got. Might try the bulbs though. Seems an easy fix. Best place to get them without relying on the net and or stupid halfords prices???

I got them from the people who supplied the indicators, M&P I think!

Yes, but he'd still have 6W bulbs, the backlight on a digital watch is brighter than that!
