okay so it's my new bike - aprilia rs125 (05 plate). it starts fine, doesn't cut out when idling, but when i pull the clutch all the way in and gear up (it's gp gearing) it just cuts out. anyone know why?

there is no side stand, it sits on a paddock. how would i check a broken switch?

Make sure that the clutch is adjusted correctly too buddy

Sure it's that gearing as it's your " New Bike " ?

Maybe Clutch cable has snapped?

yeah i can go through the gears with the clutch pulled in (when its off). i don't think the clutch cable snapped, as i was able to ride it about 3 metres (was just testing it) then i turned it off, when i tried again, it just cuts out when going into first.

Did it have a side stand and switch as standard? If so you cant just unplug the switch you need to cross the wires over letting the bike think the stand is up.

really weird, i put it back on the paddock stand, tried it again, put it into first and it was fine! kinda confusing me!

If the switch/ plunger is still there try and tape the plunger in and start the bike and put in gear. If it works follow the wire back till you find a block connector and pull the two halfs apart. At the wire loom side of the plock stick a bent bit of wire in the two female spade connectors and tape it up.

Make sure cable is tight at both ends. I.E. not much play in the leaver, and that the arm thats by the clutch cover, is moving too it's full potential. (And is tight no slack in the cable)

Make sure that the cable is taught between these too points, if it is, and your sure that the side stand switch is disabled I would suggest taking the clutch cover off, and inspecting the clutch plates.

Just had a brain wave. If Idle is very low on tick over, sometimes first can be a bit clunky on the rs. This some times will cause a bike too cut out, just a suggestion.

i left the bike for like 10 minutes, went back, and it was all fine.
should i look in to this more or just leave it?
also, the gearing feels a bit weird, don't know if this is because there is a problem or just that it's a different bike.

This, had the same issues on the nc30. How far can you let the clutch out before it bites?

well i haven't riden it past 1st gear since im not insured on it yet, but when i go through the gears when its on the paddock, with the shifter all the way to the top (its gp style) neutral is a bit hard to get into, then past that, it only feels like theres 2 more gears
