Shocked i have no idea wtf happened to me today!

i'd been taking a lesson or 2 just to make sure i had no bad habits for my up coming tests...previous feedback was that i was 'excellent and coming along nicely, no doubt about it' today i went for a mod 1 practice, and my drive there and back was attrocious! instructor said everyone has an off lesson and it was definitely out of character for me to be driving that way.

anyone else had the pre-test nerves or the off lesson? it was a horrid experience, and as soon as i left the training centre on my own bike, i felt more than fine? with mod 1 looming i can't afford to cock it up, i'm eager for this license!

Just from reading this post it sounds like you're putting too much pressure on yourself to pass, you need to chill out. It's not going to help you, but beyond the annoyance of re-booking another test I really didn't really mind whether I passed or failed either of my tests, which made them incredibly easy.

Yes, I had a double lesson the day before Mod 2. I couldn't get anything right, god knows why as I knew I could ride a lot better than I was. Got home and thought about giving my test slot up to another student who was waiting nearly 2 weeks for theirs. I went the next day and passed with 3 minors.

Shit happens, draw a line under it as YOU know you can do better. Thumbs Up

For my mod 1 my instructor stopped me practising, he said I was getting worse because my mod 1 was looming and I was panicing, getting it wrong and panicing more. Endless circle.

I did a lot of my practising on my own bike in car parks. Then went to the school to d it on the bigger bike.

I found singing "Let's go fly a kite" helped calm me down... Good Old Mary Poppins Wink

I think sometimes you can overpractice...to the point where you're making mistakes you wouldn't normally make.

I practiced LOTS for my Mod1 and there was times where I'd done the u-turn perfectly time after time after time, then bizarrely out the blue I'd fluff it up and think "wtf? I've done this perfect a hundred times, how can I possible all of a sudden fluff it like that"...but it happens.

Even though I'd never hit a cone on a single slalom/figure of 8 in the hundred or so times I'd practised it, I was still paranoid that on the mod1 day I would clip one.

Everyone has a bad day from time to time, so its best to get it out the way BEFORE your test rather than on it.

Haha, I dropped my bike at 6:30 a.m. on the morning of my mod 1.

I was first in on MoD1 and 2 as it happens at 8:15 a.m.

I was practicing on the way to the test center and it just went down, I caught it but couldn't keep it upright and laid it down as gently as I could.

Hey, Varadero's are fecking top heavy Smile

Flew through both tests 1st time so don't worry, it's all good stuff!

You really cannot want it more than I did, It was 6:30 a.m. in a car park in winter ffs Smile

You'll do great, you want it that bad, you'll pass, good luck Thumbs Up

glad to see i aint the only one then!

i had my instructor lose it with me in the courtyard for locking my back wheel up a few times. problem is, i kept grabbing for the clutch! i've decided to just take the minor, and stall the fucking bike!

out on the road though, my roundabouts were atrocious! a couple of times my road positioning was bad too. I just kept negging myself out! it wasn't a good experience today!

by the end of the mod 1 practice he had me up to scratch and focused, i feel i could do well on thursday Smile

mod 2 however, i need to be careful on roundabouts (even though i know wtf i'm doing) and with my positioning (i can be sloppy as i dont know that area and some points were very poorly posted!)

Ok, here's what I did on mine, it might help, it might not.

1. Zoom along. When you're ready to stop try:

2. Pull in the font brake firmly, don't use the back but have your foot resting on it.

3) The forward motion of your body under braking should make you lean forward, naturally pressing on the rear brake. ie not actively pressing it, just using the weight of your foot and your forward motion.

4) Just before the bike stalls, pull in the clutch.

Grabbing the clutch was an issue I originally had, it wasn't until I decided it didn't matter if I stalled I was fine. Then it's just a case of remembering to pull it in before the engine dies Smile

you know, in my mod 1 retake, i got the e-stop pretty good.

although i did use the rear brake, zoned out for some bazaar reason (brain just went clear and everything around me kind of "vanished" was like a black out without blacking out) anyway, realised i was coming down to the 10mph mark and figured, "nuts to it" yanked on cluch, tweeked both brakes and kaboom i was at a stand still realising i should probably put a foot on the floor about now (this is as the bikes beginning to lean lol)

This is part of the issue as well - you're putting pressure on yourself as you want to ride the bigger bike.

I'm learning a musical instrument & music reading - there's definitely a point where practising further gets you nowhere because your brain's knackered. Let it go and come back afresh.

I got moaned at a fair few times as I was mucking up emergency stops on the big Kawasaki during my DAS, and slowly getting worse. I did get disheartened but I'd already paid the cash so decided to make the best of the experience. Still ended up doing mod1 on my 125 though! Shit happens and I'm happy with the mileage of a 125, that'll do for a couple of years.

Just don't care whether you pass or not, it'll really help - leaving you to concentrate on the job.
