Hi, i have recently purchased my first decent size bike. i am in the process of booking my lessons ant test etc..

but the bike i have is a Suzuki GSX400FL, and i am not sure on the horsepower of the bike as it will need to be 33BHP. If anyone has any details about the bike it would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Kyle.

They're reputed to be around 40-42 horsepower, although I can't imagine that's at the rear wheel, or even accurate anymore, unless the engine's been rebuilt.

If you're really worried, then get it dyno'd, or knock up one of those hooky FI international certificates (obviously I'm not recommending the second path, just letting you know it's available, like). Given that it's 30 years old, I'd guess that it's putting out about 32-35hp tops.

If you're in the process of paying for lessons, go the whole hog and pay for a DAS. You needn't worry about power outputs ever again.

Thank you for that, and i never thought about putting it on a Dino lol.
I'm in the middle of re building the engine and its got extremely low mileage for its age. The reason i cant to direct access is because I'm only 18.

How much of an engine rebuild are we talking here? I acquired my GS650 with only 12k on the clock, and didn't even consider splitting the cases. It's of the same general vintage, so I'm wondering if you're just making work for yourself at this point.

What carbs is it using, and do you know if it shares its engine with early GSXR400s? If so, then you might be able to use the restrictor dimensions that the GSXR does.

i am replacing the head and base gasket, the head gasket failed and since i disturbed the base gasket i decided to replace the both.

As for the carbs i don't know, i just know there a block of 4. all the choke ports were seized, and the genius i bought it off glugged a full bottle of redex carb cleaner into the air-box. so the remains of all that shit was all throughout the carbs and in the cylinders. Apparently its got the same engine as the bandit...
