The weather is really affecting my decision when to take lessons hopefully DAS but i am not sure if i should just wait till next year to start lessons. Monday and today's weather has been so miserable that i even wonder if lessons would have been available when its like this. Has anyone taken lessons in this type of weather or have they decided to wait? Advice much appreciated please. Smile

Of course lessons happen in the rain! It's just rain! On yer bike!

If anything it will make you a better rider, throwing you in at the deep end, so to speak.

Stop dilly dallying - DO IT!

Are you under 24? If so you need to get it done before the end of the year or you lose the option to DAS yourself a full licence until you're over the government's new arbitrary age threshold.

I'm doing DAS now, I'm riding in the rain every day to work and back, lessons have been rainy, rain rain rain all the time. Only advice I can give you is just do it, it's not as scary as you think, and you're going to have to ride in the rain at some time - even if you don't go out in it, it's easy to get caught.

If anything you'll take it easier in the rain on DAS lessons so it will be even more easy going on your learning experience Wink

Are you riding your own bike on L's?

If so; then do lessons sooner rather than later.

I reckon that every hour of training in your first month of getting on a bike is worth a day of training a year later.....

When you first start, your are a clean sheet, open to learning; every lesson 'tought' is one you dont have to learn the hard way by making mistakes, you learn to do stuff 'right' right at the start, and any bad habits can be nipped in the bud, before they become engrained.

Longer you leave it, harder work it becomes.

Rain? This is Britain. Did you see the summer we just had...... no we didn't did we! That's my point! No garantee that we'll have one next year either.

Bikes have tread on the tyres, this is so that they can grip on a wet surface; they dont suddenly take on the handling properties of a slippery bar of soap, the moment they get wet, they DO still work!

If you dont want to ride in the rain? Well think about whether you want to ride at all; this IS britain after all, if you dont brave the elements, and only come out when the sun shines, then chances are you ent going to ever cover many miles!

So... training in the weather? Best way, isn't it? Most representative of the weather you'll have to deal with most! And if you can do it in the wet, doing it in the dry will be a doddle, and SOooooooo much more fun!

Yes, my girlfriend did her DAS in the autumn - terrible weather and she used to have to ride up to Oxford from Reading before she even got started. She just stuck it out, basically.

You're on DAS, it rains, you get wet, you become more aware of conditions which in return helps make you a better rider.

In answer to your question; YES I would say a very large majority of people - self included have done DAS/ tests in the wet.

It really isn't that big a deal & once you have your licence etc: can you honestly say that you will never ride in the wet/rain? - NO you can't, we all get caught out by a sudden shower or something, even on the brightest of sunny days.

Be honest, would you ever expect anything different weatherwise in UK Question

I had only 1 lesson, and my mod 1 in the dry. Rest of the time it was hammering it down. Made me a better rider though as riding in the dry feels like a bonus!

Did my lessons in light snow/hail. My actual test was in Snow/Ice- if anything it made me more aware of road conditions then, lets say doing it on a nice sunny day and im glad I went through with it, rather then dealing with rubbish road conditions later on.

Personally if I was over 24 I'd be leaving it.

But seeing as the EU wankers will fuck my life, I have to do it in the cold and ghey Thumbs Down

I'm doing my DAS training now too, Mondays lesson was cut short by an hour because of the wind blowing us around on the125s. But my second lesson was half on mine and half on the SV650, I was all over the place at 50mph in the wind on my ybr but as soon as I got on the SV it was so much more stable. Didn't feel it nearly as much.

Just do it and feel good knowing you've got your license

(Wo)man up!!

Its only a bit of water!

Its not much fun in the rain though, but dammit do them sooner rather than later, you will be thankful as soon as you pass that much earlier!

Good luck with them Thumbs Up

Lad i'm at uni with done his CBT with them and said they were good.

The bloke who runs it was in the DSA centre (the one at Dunston) whilst I was waiting for my Mod 2 and seemed a nice bloke.

There is a school at Lemington as well which are meant to be pretty good:
