I can confirm this. I have such advisories for 'Slight oil leak' sometimes. It does not cause an outright fail.
Saying that, I don't know if an MOT tester will even bother to look under the engine. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

oil leak is a 'non component advisory' although there is a box to tick if you think its dangerous |

Hi,
Thanks for the replies all round.
I found a rather nice 4 inch hairline crack on the underside of the RH crankcase. The crack runs between the footrest bolt holes and to the outer edge of the crankcase. Possibly caused by an off putting pressure on the footrests?
I have glued it with DP110 structural epoxy resin (Got a huge bottle from work ) for now and it has stopped the leak however i hate bodges and would like a more permanent fix.
Does anyone know if these can be welded?
Cheers,
Shaun. |

Hi,
Unfortunately i have no picture. It looks like there are a few other small cracks in the crankcase also
I'm incredibly skint so buying a second hand case is not possible at the moment. I cant even afford to strip it down as i'll need a gasket set etc. Was hoping it could be done in situ then i'd only need a new clutch gasket. Also have the added bonus of my old man been a welder
The glue seems to have done the trick but seems less than permanant as fixes go.
I need the bike to start saving money on fuel but have no money to repair it. Talk about a catch 22!
Cheers,
Shaun. |

If your very careful you won't need to replace clutch gasket. I done my clutch earlier and didn't have a gasket, I used silicone sealant. Not the best fix but it will do!
I wouldn't say you Would need to strip it out if your dads a welder, does he have a tig welder? Tig welders are the easiest to weld aluminium with.
I know how you feel about the cg, mine was a little bit of a money pit when I first got it but now it's had work done to it it won't need anything for a long while as long as I keep on top of the oil changes air filter clean etc ____________________ Honda CB-1, TS125X
