Those measurements are correct. The 6m for the fig 8 is immaterial as you can go as wide as you like ____________________ www.angliaroadtraining.com

Good grief if that's right I really need to get my theory out of the way and knock the MOD1 on the head, a drunk blind chiken on a unicyle could do a slalom and figure eight on a course with those dimensions! |

For someone that hasn't even done the theory test, that's a bold statement. BUT I agree with you... Absolutely NOTHING in the mod1 test is difficult, at all..BUT, when you're under the scrutiny of an examiner and in test conditions, nerves start to play a part and sometimes you can do things you don't normally do.
I wouldn't mind betting that you now think these distances are huge, cos you're imagining them in your head, but i bet when you see the cones on the day you'll think "jeez, them distances look smaller" its all perception.
The distances are actually quite wide, but if you hit the first cone at the wrong speed or angle and the have to brake or accelerate, all of a sudden things can go wrong. ____________________ YBR125 (SOLD) - CBR250R(SOLD) - CBR650F(SOLD) Current - Street Triple

The distances seem huge because i've been practicing using carparking spaces which are a lot smaller. I actually feel more confident about the Mod 1 than the theory as I feel I have more control over what happens on the Mod1. After all on the theory you have no control what questions you're asked |

Your thinking is slightly flawed id say Mod1 plenty of unknowns and things to go wrong specially with the old nerves etc
Theory is just questions you know what your going get and you can apply common sense if you don't know the answer..
So i would say you have more control over the theory ____________________ Fuelly My Z1000SX

I used google maps to look at the test site layout. It all looked so easy. I remember walking the mock test site and thinking that's easy. Saw it on paper - pah how difficult can it be. Got on the bike - a crappy, clumsy GS500 and all of a sudden it was my worst nightmare! Three failed tests, a bottle of bachs remedy, I nailed it the fourth time ____________________ "Light travels faster than the speed of sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak" |

Boozehawk wrote: | I just got a tape measure out and I can't believe it those measurements must be a mistake. i've been practicing my figure at at a car park (short end of spaces for slalom, long edge of space for Fof8. |
this is exactly how i played it when i was practicing.... slaloming the bay ends etc, and fig of 8 along the bays...
when i got onto my bike to actually for for the slalom on the test i couldnt believe the space i had to play with. did it at about 5-10mph, but recon an "experienced" rider could do it at a much higher speed. (not saying i could of )
i did increase my speed for the fig 8, and REMEMBER: OBSERVATIONS ON FIG 8...
as you turn right, check right, and left, check left ETC...treaat the fig 8 as a bit of filtering through traffic etc (no point gaining minors for not looking, when you got plenty of chance to look )
---
I agree wth the nerves, I was so confident of passing, but one cock up, and its all gone... foot down mid manouver is a serious fault... keep your feet on the pegs... DO NOT PUT THEM DOWN UNLESS YOUR FINISHED AND STOPPING...
Also, my examiner kept asking me to put my bike into neutral... i think he was checking that i'd stopped in 1st gear, but i never recieved any minors... (only 2 serious - one for foot down on u turn, and one for locking back wheel on e stop. - which is obviously worse )
also, be aware of cars practicing bay parking if they are doing it i the test centre... IF YOU SPOOK A CAR YOU ARE DOING A SERIOUS FAULT!...
as soon as you touch your bike, even outside the test area, you are on your test, until the point where you get off your bike after the test in a bay.
(also, i dont think he liked the idea that i got off my bike, and pushed it backwards into the bay AFTER my test, but i didnt want to go wide over some oily spill to park it forwards...
ASSESS Where you will park whilst he is opening the gates... (forward planning) and just park forwards... ____________________ CBT= 2006... Passed car test=8/3/08... then a break in biking...

First thing i do every morning when i get on my bike is a curb to curb U-turn, i dont have to but its a good way to start the day, as long as my oposite neighbours have been good enough not to park over the road from me |

no do not stop,.. the slalom and Fo8 are one manouver... (sp?)
but you always need to be "aware of your surroundings" just as you would on a live road...
i would advise looking around mid manouver because you should always LS when changing position, and a Fo8 is a hell of a lot of changing position...
however, as your "looking where your going" etc, its not much effort to do... just look before turning... and it serves as a LS too..
slaloming i didnt do LS'ers, but i did check my mirrors... you have LOTS of space, just keep it slow and steady...
and as you practiced the same way i did, im sure you'll find it the same...
just note: you cant be penalised for looking TOO MUCH, but can for looking too little.
sadly the earliest re-test i can get is end of october... gonna call some schools and see if i can get in one of their slots... ____________________ CBT= 2006... Passed car test=8/3/08... then a break in biking...
