My front brake has started squeaking when I pull up I depend on the front disk brake a lot as my rear drum brake isn't half as effective. Is there anyway I can stop it squeking without tampering as I don't feel confident taking the brake apart.

short of removing and deglazing the pads
I am assuming you have checked that there is in fact material left on the pads

You could try blasting out the caliper area with either an aerosol brake cleaner or carefully using your local jetwash

this might help Thumbs Up

Get into the habbit of useing both, i know the feeling, i'd stand bugger all chance stoping on just my rear brake, but then i can say the same for the front...

Squeeking is not anything to worry about, there will be a way of checking the pad wear, appart from that, if your still stopping then dont worry...

Haveing knowlageble friends will make your life easyer, or a trused mechanic wou can have a look/listen for you...

+ Like retro man said, break cleaner is your friend Smile

Don't forget that the rear brake only gives a third of the braking power and should never be used alone. (The rear disc / drum brake is tiny) . I only use it for hill starts and e stops. Some of my biker mates are the same Thumbs Up

if not confident about brakes, understandabble
please try and find a knowledgeable mate and then check all are clean and if necessary copper grease rear of pads.
it could be as said if relying heavily on front very worn down

please if not sure dont, a squeeking brake is better than no brake

good luck

I have squeeky brakes too. I'll try some copper grease, but i need to ask, where is the rear of the pad? Confused Is it the part that rubs on the disk?

Definately not the part that rubs on the disk.

No! Shocked Shocked If you did that you might as well not have brakes!

The rear of the pad is the other side, the side away from the disc. Thumbs Up

The squeaking is often caused by vibration between the rear of the pad and the piston that pushes it onto the calliper.

Recently on here there was a chap who had his front wheel lock. It was suggested his pads were so badly worn it poped out and got jammed between the caliper/pad holder and the disc.

I'd check they are not overly worn if I were you.
