I think I've posted this before and apologies for those that have already seen it. This really helped me to make my mind up about having ABS on my first bike. It has only come on noticably once, when I misjudged the lights changing and decided at the last second (in the wet) that I wouldn't make it through on amber.

Here is the MCN test, ABS , a bit more real and shows that people can get to close to ABS stopping distances, but it takes a lot of skill and practice at stopping in emergency conditions. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

I wouldn't buy another bike from new without ABS.
My scooter has ABS, but my ER6 doesn't. The only time I ride the ER6 in rain is when I'm touring, usually in a foreign country, where I'm not being too aggressive in urban situations anyway. The SH300, on the other hand, I ride every day, rain or shine, and sometimes even in the snow. It spends most of its time in the city, where there is substantially more oil and diesel on the ground, and traction is a lot worse in the rain than it is on faster roads in the countryside.
I've come up to junctions past queuing cars where a car pulls out suddenly, and on the SH300 in the wet, "locked up" both wheels - but owing to ABS, it turned into a steerable sideways drift. Cars have pulled out on me even in the dry and I've braked hard enough for the ABS to kick in, but still giving me enough control to swerve and avoid at the same time.
People who spend a lot of time off-road may have a good argument against ABS. On the road, in bad weather, I don't think there are good arguments against it.
In a panic braking scenario on uncertain grip, without ABS, you'll almost certainly under-brake to begin with as you wait for the load to shift to the front before more fully applying the brakes. With ABS, the tech does the analysis with more reliability and repeatability than you can.
Strong vote for ABS here. I'd pay up to 20% of the cost of the vehicle to ensure it's present. I'd only tolerate its absence in a bike that only goes out in fair weather. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

I don't think that's more real to be honest, because it's on a track. On a track, I'd expect to have fairly predictable traction in the wet. On the road, coming up to a junction, you usually have no idea how many big trucks leaking oil and dripping diesel have been sitting there in the past minutes / hours / days before the rain. You normally can't take the risk of applying full braking power without ABS, because you risk sliding into the junction. You'd have to test for when traction breaks, but doing that on the front especially is a fool's game, IMO - and in the middle of an emergency panic? But that's what ABS can do. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

My Bandit's got ABS.
I do my best to look ahead and anticipate problems and maybe get off the throttle from time to time, keep the 2 second rule, and so far I'm not aware I've ever triggered it. I take the car when it's icy.
But it's not eating or drinking (although it is an extra pain in the arse getting the rear wheel in and out due to the sensor) and one day.... one day.... I just might be glad of it.
I didn't go out looking to buy a bike with ABS - I just found a bike I liked; it had ABS on it. If i was buying new, I'd probably pay extra for it as I think more and more people will be looking for it on 2nd hand bikes, so would hopefully keep the value of mine up. ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>
