Agreed ASDA seems to have a few, and their fuel always seems to be the cheapest too. Maybe the profit on garage sweeties isn't as good as we think... ____________________

Hooray for small victories!
I've had a response from BP, they still haven't addressed every point, but they have spoke to their HSSE (health & safety I assume) and done a complete U-turn! Although the company policy may have changed some time ago.
Go forth and use BP with gay abandon...
| careline@bp.com wrote: | Thank you for contacting us. Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of BP Oil UK Ltd, for any inconvenience and disappointment that this incident may have caused you.
I apologise for the confusion surrounding this matter. I have contacted our HSSE Adviser who confirmed the following:
As part of the petroleum license conditions, customer assistants must ensure that the person dispensing petroleum or LPG is aged 16 or over, as it is against the law to serve these products to underage persons.
If the face of the person attempting to dispense these fuels is obscured the customer assistant may ask the person to remove their hood or baseball cap etc. A visual check of this nature is often very helpful in determining if a person is of the required minimum age. In addition, the customer assistants may also ask for proof of age, if they are still unsure.
We had deliberately changed our policy and the Operating Instructions issued to Site managers and staff highlighting the change that our motorcyclist customers were NOT required to remove their crash helmets prior to the pump being authorised. We would assume the rider is legally allowed to ride the motorcycle, hence taking off the helmet would not be made a prerequisite to the sale.
As a matter of security, we would prefer customers to remove helmets, hood or baseball caps before entering the sales building to pay for the fuel. The guidelines apply to all customers using our service stations, and it is not made to discriminate against motorcyclist.
As a result, I have contacted the site manager responsible for the mentioned site and he will speak directly with the site staff involved, and take any necessary steps to ensure that this situation does not recur again in the future.
In addition, I have forwarded the full details of your concerns to the attention of the BP area manager responsible for the site to monitor in the future.
Once again please accept my sincere apologies for any upset caused by this and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued custom. I do hope despite this, you will continue to use our services in the future.
Customer Care is extremely important to BP, as a company we require that our staff treat customers with politeness and respect at all times. We recognise that customer service and the manner in which our staff conducts their daily duties is critical to our brand image and continued success of our business.
Thank you for taking the time to bring the matter to our attention and for allowing us the opportunity to respond to your concerns at this time. |

I still want to know if they have 'privacy booths' to serve those folk who think all men will have impure thoughts about their women if they remove their coverings in public? ??? ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

Well done for persevering and actually standing up and asking pertinent questions. Sounds like BP actually realise pissing off customers doesn't help business!

| jetski wrote: | yes you could complain.. or you could man up a little bit, or even fill up when the weather is dry... or even just go to a garage with a roof if the rain is this much of an issue for you |
You clearly don't ride much in bad weather - after many hours all gear gives up and you end up saturated. It's not about rain on my head, it's inability to make small movements with my fingers - trying to take gloves on and off becomes difficult, and double D-rings are near impossible.
If no-one complained then they wouldn't know what their customers thought. In the case of BP they have changed their policy, see my earlier post...
| jetski wrote: | if anyone wanted to buy fags or alcohol they would expect to have to show their face, I don't see it as any different. I'm not "happy" that some garages follow the rule, but I understand why the rule is there, and it really doesn't bother me taking my helmet off, I don't know why people kick up so much of a fuss |
Ok, you don't see the fuss but many on here do. I don't see why you would continue bleating on about something that you don't really care about.
| jetski wrote: | I don't think the fact that someone turns up on a bike means they are old enough to buy petrol. that's like saying some kid should be serves alcohol because he's already drunk |
BP do, see the above correspondence. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

But now what? Print it off, kick off the next time (and there will be a next time) you're told to de-helmet? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
