Is toast influenced by toaster price?

As per the title...Toast is the food of the Gods but at the end of the day it is just toast, does it taste better if it is made in a £80 machine rather than my £9 toaster?

Wotcha.
I'm a toastaholic.
When I went shopping for my toaster I took a slice of bread with me . . . . I had to make sure the toaster could cope with something as thick as a Warburtons Super Toastie. Only one toaster could cope - a De'Longhi - and that's the one I use every day.
As luck had it, the model I bought was discontinued very shortly . . . .I hope mine doesn't fail soon.

I feel bread is more important than toaster.....

I think it is fundamentally the food that describes us as human is toast. We first became independent of nature when we cultivated grain and used fire to cook with. Toast is the combination of those two advances that made us the dominant animal on our planet, a toast to our species.

My family bought some horrid 4 slice toaster. The bloody thing takes ages to cook toast and 1 slice is always burnt, while the rest are hardly cooked

Seems to make quite a difference.

My cheapo toaster is hopeless. Only reaches 2/3rds of a slice so you have to flip it (the bread, not the toaster) to try and get even coverage. God forbid you want it anything close to well done, because the centre will charcoal before the edges are even warm.

This also means I go through a cycle of attempting to use it, realising how terrible it is, using the grill for a few weeks until I forget how frustrating the toaster is, then repeating.

I have never owned a toaster before this week and am chuffed with "toast on demand" it far beats other methods involving boiler plates and oxyacetylene.

When we moved in to this house the missus said she wanted one that would last a bit longer than the last one....


so off she tootles to John Lewis & she came back with a Dualit toaster 109 fucking quid, I could believe she could be so stupid, its essentially a commercial toaster stainless steel like the ones you see in the Italian cafes, you can get a sandwich carriage to compress the bread to make a toasted sandwich that was 10 quid!!

we've had it 5 years now and still as good as the day it was bought, still not convinced a 30 quid one won't last as long

Surely it's about the heat of the toaster? Same as how you can have an oven too hot and burn the edges of your meal before the insides are cooked, your bread could begin to char while the inside is still fluffy bread, if the heating elements are too hot.

So, get a thermometer! Hah.

That's personal preference though...some people prefer a high temperature and a short time to provide this variation in texture. Other people prefer a more thorough and deep toasting with a longer time and a lower temperature. These people are wrong.

I got some fairly posh looking glass and metal thing on sale from the local Debenhams when I moved. Definitely does a more consistent job than my old argos cheapo

Decent bread makes a big impact, and the spread is vital too, anchor spreadable is my favourite overall, got some Bertolli Gold as it was on offer. It's tasty but is a proper pig to spread evenly.

One of these days I'll try my hand with a bread maker, I fancy me a posh rice cooker first mind

never understand why bread doesn't fit in toasters either... although probably 8 times out of 10, you can actually turn em on the side and they fit for height, albeit a little tight along the length then.

i do like a de'longhi as well

I'm a Warburtons man through and through, I actually had to fight back the tears when there factory burnt down a few years back

Having said that, any visitors to the Isle Of Man may have had a loaf of bread over there that they only slice into about 8 bits, making each well over an inch thick only problem is that it doesn't fit in ANY toaster

The grill has concentration issues tho. You put the bread in, you watch diligently while chuff-all happens. Then you get bored and 'nip' off to do something else 'quickly'. The next thing you know the smoke alarm is going loopy and breakfast isn't happening today
