You couldn't legally ride either the Aprillia RS125, nor the KTM until you were 19, and then, only after passing tests and holding A1 licence 2 years, then taking A2 test on a 500 to gain licence for them.
RS125 exceeds the power allowed by Learner-Legal / A1 licence entitlement
KTM exceeds the power and the power to weight limit allowed by Learner-Legal / A1 licence entitlement,m posibly even power to weight ratio for A2 licence meaning another two years and an A3 test to get licence to ride it!
You may, ride a standard YZF-R125 on L-s or A1 licence..... in just under a years time, when you are old enough....... but 70mph for four and a half grand or as much as a brand new YBR second hand?
Personally, I'd buy a boring as buggery YBR, and enjoy at least saving money while going slowly and learning to handle ANYTHING with more power than a lawn-mower.
Your 16, you have almost eight months before you can even dream of any of these bikes though, and yeah.... you might have 3 months experience of a 50..... at best, and almost no idea what its like to ride any bike legally on the road, YET.... you have ideas that you HAVE to have one that's 'fast' more, faster than you are legally allowed on licence you will be entitled to in umpety months, and that is STILL faster than maximum legal speed limits in this country..... for ANY sized bike......
All I can say is, you have a LOT to learn!
Learn to ride a bike, of ANY speed or performance before starting to complain that something your not allowed right now is not enough and you have to have something your also not allowed!?!?!?
And if you DGAS about riding legally, who teh fuck are you trying to kid limiting yourself to illegal 125's? May as well get a ZX6R for under a grand and be hung for a sheep as a lamb, with some real high-speed high performance on tap, rather than just a dribble! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
Current Bikes:'Honda VF1000F' ;'CB750F2N' ;'CB125TD ( 6 3 of em!)'; 'Montesa Cota 248'. Learner FAQ's:= 'U want to Ride a Motorbike! Where Do U start?'

I GOT THE YAMAHA!!! . I'm 17 so that was my only option, sex on wheels. It took me around 6-7 months of saving but when ever i see it in the morning it leaves a nice warm feeling in my heart.
Also as i live in a big city like london keeping up with bigger bikes on semi congested roads aint that hard as well.
Taking the above into account if you have the funds to purchase the yamaha straight away PURCHASE IT NOW!!, but don't mess around spending weeks like i did roaming from gumtree and ebay. As JAN 2013 is around the corner, i had the luxury of time so i could but i wouldn't advise you doing the same. |

All three are overpriced shite imo.
The sensible advice is to just buy a YBR/CBF. However if i was doing it again i'd probbably buy a CBR125 & pay no more than 1k.
The RS has a hand grenade engine. You twist the throttle and wait for it to go bang. And it will. I've heard of them blowing up engines that were propely babied before hitting their first warranty service...
The KTM is a full on enduro bike. It's service schedule is measured in HOURS. Not miles. You get HOURS between rebuilds!! And KTM parts are stupidly expensive.
The R125 is a ghey commuter with a shitload of plastic strapped to it. Hopelessly slow, and a YBR will keep up with one to near 70mph. Save £2k and get the commuter!
However
If its gotta be two smoke, look at a DT125, or derbi GPR. The GPR uses the yamaha engine...which is about as reliable as you'll get from a smoker.
But realy, grab the shittiest commuter you can find. Get laughed at by bike mates. Pass tests within a month & spend the next few years lauging at them from a big bike that makes the right noises as the new licence regs prevent them from getting faster machinery. Also worth keeping in mind that the opposite sex doesnt seem to find L plates and "that bike sounds like a moped" attractive.
Dont be a wanker, do tests (which will cost less than rebuilding the engine of an rs/exc - and you'll be doing it within the first month) ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
