YBR 125 problem, its a 56 plate.

Anyway, on the way back from work yesterday I statrted it as I would, put choke on because it was freezing and about two minutes after riding it just cut out.

I had to wait on the side of a road about 5 mins before lights start appearing again, as everything just turns off. This happened once more till I got home.

This morning, went to put choke on, and it revs to about 3k then cuts out. But even if I don't put the choke on now, about 20 seconds after being started it still cuts out - as I found out at the end of my street.

Thanks.

Nope, total newbie with bikes all together so I didn't know where to start! I'll give them a once over.

Do you mean all the electrics are dying on you? If so, not sure the choke issue is the main problem.

Might be worth putting a voltage tester across your battery terminals and checking what voltage you're getting. Do this with the bike turned off, and then with bike running with no lights on, and then again with bike running with lights on. Write down what figures you're getting from each reading.

I'm assuming you're bike has 12v electrics. Once you have those figures, either post them here, or ring/pop in to your local Yam' dealer and ask them if your figures seem right.

It may be you've got a dead/dying battery (especially if it's the original item).

So you can start the bike but it cuts out after a while?

Yours is the carbed model so different to mine, but when my fuse was gone I found the bike would still start on kick (electric rapes) but I could only get down the road, as soon as the revs dropped there wasn't enough power and it'd die as it was running purely off the generator i'm guessing, yours isn't FI so can probably run easier without the fuse intact

Check your fuse, should be in the relay next to the battery under your LH side panel (opens with a key)

Assuming the older models mostly the same!

So you can start it okay on electric start? Do you notice the lights dimming when you press the button? If so could be battery on it's way out or needing maintenance as above has said

If it starts fine then the spark plugs probably okay, but it's worth having a look at and checking the clearance anyway, easy job

Tool kit above the battery in your bike, everything you need in there Thumbs Up

Maybe you overheating the engine?
Did you left the choke for to long?
What is the oil level and when was it changed last time?

Battery can be old as well. It can also be a dirty air filter.
Many things if the bike is missing a good maintenance.

If all electrics are dying, check the main fuse.

My main fuse has been melting due to a poor connection and requires replacing approx once a week or my bike will cut out similarly to yours.

As above check battery and fuse. Also check the battery connections for tightness and look for any loose connections.

If it's dying right after starting on a morning where it needs the choke on, it's not overheating.

Have any carb jetting/settings been changed recently that you know of?

I'd tried the battery, as I'd been told by friends that it could be that so I bought a battery charger and left it until it said fully charged.

Anyway, it worked for about 30 seconds and now its seems to be that it needs a rest as the lights all go off again. I'm going to figure out how to 'check' the fuse and then I'll let yous know.

Thanks so far!

Took out the new fuse, straight away didn't look right as it had a gaping hole in the metal.

Replaced with a new one (pack of 2 only £1.79) and seemed to run just fine!

Need to fill up sometime tonight so hopefully I can get there without any implications.

Thanks for the help though, especially alpha! certainly improved my knowledge on little bits and peices.
