Lets face it riding a motorcycle is a minority pursuit. The population in general don't give a crap about the new laws.

Even the majority of the biking community don't give a toss because they already have a licence.

Basically you have a hand full (in the scheme of things) of pre test folks and a hand full of bikers getting their knickers in a twist but other than that no one gives a shit. Truth.

Thumbs Up

Hey,
Don't mean to sound selfish but i passed my full bike test a decade ago so couldn't give a flying crap.

Besides i think its a good idea Thumbs Up Although it does step in front of Darwinism. We've all seen the 16/17/18 year olds riding there superpeds thinking there indestructible. Can they really be trusted to ride a 'proper' bike safely? **Hopefully** by the time their in their 20's they'd have grown up a bit and realise what a tw@t they were when younger.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Um, but note that the UK implementation almost ensures that 17 year olds will do a CBT, then ride around on a 125 for 2 years without any further training. How's that helping their safety?

+1, since there isn't much of a standard to obtain a CBT certificate Lets be honest most can get one by handing £100 over and riding round some cones. Most have no clue about the safety, correct braking, pillion care etc etc.. Although i don't fully agree with the test changes i think it should be changed on a more safety orientated intensive rather than a revenue generating one. Keeping 17 year olds off 600cc bikes wont really help accidents as they wont really bother doing any training after CBT now figuring there isn't much point spending money they don't have anyway Laughing

I love this attitude on the forum, where people seem to think all young people buy big bikes, don't restrict them and crash, which is complete bullshit really.

Shame that once again everyone takes the stereo type.

How about all older bikes ride everywhere at 20mph?

I think everyone needs to wake the fuck up a bit, and see where the EU is actually going with this. How many 17 year olds are going to do the new test? Very few, which means there will be less bikes on the road in the coming years. I doubt very much the new young bikers coming onto the road will replace the older bikers that are giving it up.

What you idiots don't realise is that is EXACTLY what the EU want, they want to decrease the amount of bikes on the road because we as a community are to dangerous. They eventually want to ban biking all together, so all this new test thing does is make that easy for them.

I would also like to point out that the reason for the 'new test' is because they want to encourage people to have more training. However, its so fucking complicated and expensive, that most young people, if they want a bike, will get a 125 and ride around on a CBT.... completely against the whole idea of the system in the first place.

There was nothing wrong with the old system, its just the fact it was never implemented properly which enabled people to get away without restricting their bikes, and putting themselves at risk etc. If the old system was correctly understood by everyone (police officers mainly) and had proper, consistent legislation behind it there would be no issues.

All the old system did anyway for the reason above, was penalise the people that were actually going to be sensible on a bike, because those were the ones that stuck the restriction out.

Bare in mind people, that the officers can't understand a simple, if you past your test before you're 21 and don't take another test you must ride a restricted bike, how the fuck are they going to understand and implement the new laws?

If they insist on changing the old law, then it should be changed to you pass your test, and you're allowed to ride up to a 250, putting out no more than 45bhp for 2 years or similar, and perhaps take another test at the end of the 2 years if they must.

Calm down, soldier, we've got your back. Anyone who's been watching what Brussels has been up to will have come to that conclusion: Vision Zero won't and can't be fulfilled until we're all off our bikes.

Beats me. I'd expect that the 35kW limit will be stuck to every bit as much as the current 25kW one is. It'll be interesting to see how many folk bother upgrading from A2 to full A after their 2 year purgatory.

That's assuming that training schools survive until then. It's going to be pretty lean when they lose all of their 17 and 18 year old candidates overnight, beyond the CBT.

It's crazy to think the EU want to ban bikes now or in the future. The fact is every government is trying to find an alternative to the car. In many other countries across Europe the motorcycle is accepted as an important part of the motoring culture.

Like it or not I believe the new laws are genuinely trying to improve safety.

I know, just don't usually post in these threads but am getting a little bit bored of the reading the same 'its a good idea' bullshit because its safer for young people etc etc.

The EU is run by those who show up. Excitable Southrons with bike cultures tend to ignore the EU, or hit it up for handouts, they don't run it.

The Nordic block don't like bikes at a State level: Vision Zero has no place for powered two wheelers.

France appears to detests bikes: they've achieved a 100bhp limit and reflective stickers, and have tried to introduce reflective vests, no filtering, and banning older bikes from cities.

Germany, well, they have BMW, so there's that.

It's not just the 3rd Directive: look at the anti-tamper tosh and the Euro wide testing regime for bikes.

I expect there's a place for 125s or (God help us) electric bikes for transporting Worker Assets to their Toil Pods, but using bikes for pleasure and leisure? It hurts them, where a human would have a heart.

Maybe, but in a comically inept way, by obsessing over power and weight, like autistic spackers. Heck, they're still doing it, they're just after upping the A3/A test bike minimums to 50kW and 180kg.

If they were really interested in biker safety, they'd have mandated more training. 7 hours is the minimum required, and our CBT satisfies that. Heck, they could have mandated bike awareness training for drivers, they're the ones mashing us up.
