I'd go North to South (or vice-versa) on the A470, diverting off to go over any particularly good/famous roads, passes and bike meets such as Hellfire pass, Horsershoe pass, Llanberis pass and Devils Bridge. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. This road is a gem, very twisty, great views, almost "technical" in places. Has an ice cream van.

This one is an open road, decent overtaking places, fast and medium speed corners, swoops up and down hills.

This one is really twisty too, quite a narrow road, with one very narrow 1 lane bridge you have take quite slowly. But absolutely worth it. Its a lovely road for almost the entire length.

There are dozens of other great roads all over Wales. But if i was going to tell you one thing in South Wales, the easy choice is to head for Llandovery and pick a direction.
And +1 for the Elan Valley. Its beautiful.

all those routes posted are great. particularly like the stretch between llangurig and aberystwyth on the A44. there's another big dam up there too just off from ponterwyd, called nant y moch. worth a 5 minute detour any day it's beautiful up there and sign posted from ponterwyd.
zen dog's routes around llandovery etc are good. the bit between llandovery and lampeter can be iffy as it's all under trees for a lot of the way so grip, in the hundreds of times i've driven it, is NEVER optimal. it's always wet, or bumpy, or leafy, or just plain greasy.
worth the ride though as it'll bring you to lampeter and onto one of my favourite routes for having a blast on. it used to be my commute so i know it like the back of my hand and can't wait to have a go on a bigger bike when i pass practicals. (link below)

can then take coast road from new quay to aberystwyth which is pretty nice going with some nice views ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!

Have you tried taking the turn off onto the A4120 for Devils Bridge and taking that the rest of the way to Aberystwyth? Its a peach.

Have to say, this is true, still worth it though. I'm going to try that route to the coast.

yeah i've taken that way, it's also a good road, bit the a44 one is wider and more sweepy etc, i just prefer it. (i've only driven those in a car, so maybe the width is less of an issue on a bike).
that little route is only 20ish minutes, but it's good. lots of good corners on up or down dips. and the reason for the bit along too llanarth and then down is because the way that looks straighter is all 30 limits. plus the hill from llanarth down toward new quay is an excellent road going up or down it is fun. ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!
