I had a go in one of them at a works conference. My GOD it's difficult. I didn't come last though, much to the annoyance of a fair few male salesmen in the company. If you're not careful it WILL rip your arms out of the sockets, it's brutal.

EDIT: Oh and if you're a bit on the larger side, you won't even fit in the thing. Tight squeeze!

I drove one a while ago here.

They are very good simulators with good, physical feedback, but they are certainly NOT indistinguishable from the real thing.... simple physics and laws of motion make that impossible.

When I drove them they were set in 'arcade' mode, which was still pretty real but, for example, had the force feedback torque on the steering turned down so that Joe Public and I didn't get hurt if/when we crashed.

I did manage to get within 107% of the lap record though.

Would be a lot cheaper if they didn't spend so much on making the whole thing a carbon fibre composite with real F1 tyres and calipers/suspension for something that isn't going to move...

A logitech G25 (I have one) and a modified steering wheel would achieve the same thing pretty much, they have pretty strong force feedback when turned up. You could play a lot more games as well…

It's nothing like an F1 simulator used to train drivers*. Mind you they cost around £2,000,000 a pop and come complete with hydraulics to replicate G forces as closely as possible.

*Not that the primary use of an F1 simulator is to train drivers anyway. They're primarily a tool for the engineers to set up the mechanical and aero baselines for the car on each track. The driver is only 'in the loop' to give more naturalistic inputs and feedback.
