Why do bike shops still get away with quoting ridiculous prices for restrictors.
I think the general biking public is becoming more aware that you don't need FI restrictors nor a cert. but most bike shops are ripping off the uneducated new biker!
Basically need to get some restrictors for my CB500*, called a bike shop in london and was quoted £265 for restrictors and fitting!
Because "We obviously need to fit them ourselves and sign all certification".
A piss take considering a full kit can be bought for £40 from David Silver Spares! lol
If that was your only access to info why would you disbelieve them.
But if the restrictors from FI cost the highest price, the bike shops dont gain that much from using them, why dont they suggest cheaper ones?
* p.s. Anyone selling some used cb500 restrictors? ____________________ "Calamity - A more than commonly plain & unmistakable reminder that the affairs of this life are not of our own ordering."

Just make sure you don't fall for it. You can usually buy the washer type kits on ebay and fit them yourself without too much trouble.
The if need be, just get a dyno for proof of restriction.
My total cost of restriction for my XJ6 was £65 including fitting. And I even got a little certificate from the dealer too

Try £2 for a pack of "repair washers" from B&Q, then drill 20mm holes in them.
The ones from FI or eBay don't come with magic holes. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Well, quite. I "promote" B&Q only as the lesser of two (or three) evils. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

FWIW there's this old thread on CB500 restriction (clicky link).
There's part numbers and stuff that may be of interest.
Also IIRC stinkwheel may have the sizes of the washers/holes required. Found it from here. Inlet restricted to 19mm diameter, main jet size 125. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

I ordered the one s from David Silvers for £40 inc. postage and tax.
I could have waited for cheaper ones to turn up but I wanted them soon as possible really.
1 x 16211MY5710 - INSULATOR.CARB RH *D (£8.17) - £8.17
2 x 991014431250 - JET.MAIN #125 *M (£5.84) - £11.68
1 x 16221MY5710 - INSULATOR.CARB LH *D (£8.17) - £8.17
But on topic, I was annoyed that bike shops always use FI when there are legitimate alternatives...Do they bellieve the lies or do they just not care? ____________________ "Calamity - A more than commonly plain & unmistakable reminder that the affairs of this life are not of our own ordering."

I just do it the easy way and don't bother restricting it at all ____________________ Generic XOR 50, Gilera SMT 50, GSXR 400 GK73A, Ducati Monster 600, Honda Hornet 600.

It's always the Germans' fault, isn't it, Keith?
Incidentally, given the risible terms of use of their website, I'd be astonished if FI kits come with a warranty that they do restrict to 25kW rather than an attempted disclaimer that they don't. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
