We have one of these....its not making us happy at the mo. We have replaced various parts - new CDI, wiring loom, kickstart, battery, spark plug, it won't start, the carb has been cleaned and the jets. There seems to be too much fuel coming through as the spark is getting wet, sounds weird? not sure

Hope you can help somehow, thanks in advance, Elaine

thanks for your reply, compression tested at 75, and a new generator has been suggested?

And so it goes on...bla...bla...bla...another broken ped (but only two) so far!

75 PSI? That seems a little low.

So, you've got Fuel, Spark and 2t oil. I'd check that compression again, 75 PSI does sound to low to me, I'd expect it to be over 100psi at minimum.

Don't buy broken peds. Especially the two-stroke ones.

These little 50CC's are often rode on cheap oil and rarely filled up, so they run out and then the bottom end is screwed, then they take forever to start, and when they do finally start, they either bog out and stall again, or run fine until they're warm, then won't start again on warm. Rolling Eyes

Low compression would suggest the bottom end is screwed.

Scrap would probably be a final resting place for this moped, unless you bought a new engine for it, but if the wiring is screwed, chances are, it'll still be a pain in the backside.

What year is the ped? If it's an early 2000s one or before, take the ignition cover off, and there should be a clip going into the back of the barrel, remove it. Then hold the back brake and use the kickstart, this method should make it start, IF it's an electrical problem stopping it from starting. Although, this method I've only tried on a Piaggio, might not work on the Speedfighter's.

:karma: hi dudette,

so has this bike ever run??

is fuel in good condition with no water in carb float bowl??

is there a spark at the plug?

see cmsnl for the exploded views etc.

i assume you have no manual and very little tool wise??

you need to establish if you have a spark, first priority, without setting the bike on fire!!

elec start or kick start as well??

you suggest a new genny needed?? any bad connections to genny and do timing marks line up at tdc etc?? fan cooled, sheared flywheel key possibly?

ign kill circuit works properly?? find cdi ign kill wire and disconnect, try again.

some pics would help.

lolwut?

If its got low compression then its the TOP end thats gone, not the bottom end.

Top end = Cylinder, Piston and Head

Bottom end = Crank Case, Crank etc.

The low compression problems could most likely be solved with a new cylinder and piston kit.

Just to make sure, you did hold the throttle open whilst doing the compression test right?

Before jumping in and spending more money on it, try to get somebody to perform a leak down test on it, they're a lot more reliable then bog standard compression testers.

Why would there be a clip going into the barrel from behind the ignition cover? Your statement makes very little sense. Removing a clip wouldn't circumvent an electrical problem such as a broken HT lead now would it?

Oh, and for the record its a Speedfight. Not a speedfighter.

I got mixed up is all. Laughing

I'm rubbish with names of things etc.

But yes, by the disconnecting the barrel I meant like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pql76fWX2u0 works on ALL Piaggio's of the early 2000s (I know it's not a Piaggio).

And I meant if someone had bodged the wiring and was causing it to not start because of bodge wiring. Rolling Eyes

Also if you're not trolling, I've spoken to chavs that have understood what I meant. Rolling Eyes
