I use the helmet lock on the side of my bike to hang my helmet on when I need to leave the bike.
I can promise you that I've left it in far far dodgier places than you're likely to leave yours and so far I've never had a problem - been doing it for about 3 years.
Only minor thing is that I always make sure I have something to go around my neck if there's any chance of rain because the lower edge sometimes gets damp in heavy rain but that's it. I don't have a waterproof bag or anything. ____________________ Ride a slightly battered Fazer

as others said, helmet lock. If not just a cheap cable lock round something on the bike that cant be undone and leave it on the seat. If it falls off then it wont hit the floor and you wont get bugs and shit in it ____________________ Ybr 125 > Bandit 650SA > GSXR 600 > Triumph Sprint St1050 > CB1300 > Z1000SX + FJ1200 (written off) > VFR750 >FJ1200 |

If you cant figure out what to do with your helmet, then you should not have access to motorised vehicles. ____________________ Jogging on, destination living. |

improvise a little, I have a D ring lock on the side of the bike.. but I have ratchet straps too... but you can improvise a little hole for them to go through between the strap adjuster... might not be as secure as a metal ring but it does the job

When we are off the bike for a long time me and the missus lock ours to the seat using a normal coiled bike lock. We also leave our jackets on the bike too, never had an issue |

If someone is going to go through the hassle of that to steal the helmet, chances are they will find a way of getting the helmet off the "wire" mentioned... by cutting it or what-not....
if they are really determined, they will just cut the straps instead[/quote
You can't stop someone cutting the straps (or understand why the hell they'd do that, for that matter), but what I am describing, perhaps not too clearly, is a 10-second way of undoing the helmet from the holder wire and getting it out clean with the strap intact.
When it comes down to it, if I've locked it in a way that I've done all I can and the only way it can get nicked is if the helmet, strap or holder is damaged/broken, that's OK, but if I've "locked" it in a way that just undoing the strap intact can get it free, then there's no point. ____________________ First bike: CBF125, Feb. - Oct. 2012

Oh I understood what you meant, Guess I took a bad example
Guess its a bit more noticeable how easy it is to undo when its hanging from a wire... mine's is just a little lock on the side which is awkward to get your hands into, never mind notice its not held on by much...
Something similar to this
