Any recommended products for cleaning and oiling the chain

How often should you clean it? (chain that is)

I do mine every two tanks of fuel (300-ish miles) and I use Paraffin with a 25mm paint brush which has had the bristles cut right back in order to make it quite stiff.

I use Sdoc100 chain lube

Don't usually clean the chain at all - just keep it nicely greased with old engine oil every week.

Castrol chain cleaner and chain lubricant gets my vote I check mine every week - keep on top of it is the best bet rather than wait until it needs done

I just did mine, toothbrush & paraffin, give a good rub with a rag.

Then deisel oil applied through an old toy oil can, perhaps a brush up at the end with a 1/2" paintbrush, nice and cheap!

But this method really needs doing fortnightly at least, if riding around in shitty weather.

I use halfords chain lube spray, just keep applying it every two weeks or so, don't really clean the chain though.

clean what is this "clean" you people speak of (im into ratbikes )

i just use an oil can and apply used engine oil too the sprocket while the bikes ticking over in first gear .

The wheel spinning moves oil through the chain from the inside out doing this has always worked well for me and my uncles fif it for 20 + years before me lol

A washing up brush and an jar with some diesel or paraffin in it plus a supply of rags to wipe the excess off. Apply the diesel with the brush and work it into the links. Repeat until clean, wipe excess off with rag. Repeat section by section until the entire chain is done. Allow to dry. Apply lube.

I usually put a sheet of cardboard or ply between the chain and the rear wheel to avoid diesel splashing onto the tyre. If you do this inside a garage then you'll need to protect the floor or pressure wash it afterwards. Lay any diesel soaked rags out flat to dry when you're done - they've been known to spontaneously combust if left scrunched up.

Paddock stand, paraffin onto a rag, rotate wheel and wipe.

Dry your chain and apply chainsaw oil onto another rag and then wipe on. 1 litre of chainsaw oil is a fiver.. Wurth Dry lube - god knows how much they cost now, but I've not touched chain lube since I had my tutoro auto chain lube - only recently broke, hence reverting to manually applying chainsaw oil. Old engine oil works just as well.
