Hi guys, after selling my old intruder several months back i'm lookin at gettin back on 2 wheels again and wanna try a sports bike type.

Seen a nice RS125 in my price range but not sure if they're learner legal or not as 33bhp.

Any info appreciated.

Andy

P.S. I know it's been done to death but have also seen some nice looking chinky bikes (Reiju/Lexmoto/Superbyke/Skyjet) are these really all that bad???

RS125 needs to be restricted to >15bhp.

Reiju are spanish, not Chinese afaik.

Yes you ARE.... you have done CBT and you KNOW learner limits are 125cc AND 14.5bhp. RS wont be 33bhp either... best I think were 31, most high 20's. And they are not a practical, reliable every day bike, or particularly learner-freindly, and tend to be more expensive to run than a 'big-bike'.
Want a 'sports'? Get a licence and buy one!
Want a practical every day bike? Get a licence & buy one.
Want 'cheap' wheels? Get a licence & buy one...
Are you seeing a 'theme' here?
'fast' 125's are NOT 'fast', when for the sake of a bit of effort you can have as much performance as your bottle & wallet will allow.
Had this debate before, and I struggled to find many bikes in the Used-Bike-Buyers guide actually as SLOW as a full power Aprillia!
All the bikes that were 'close', were things like Honda CX500's or old GSX400's, middle-weight commuter fare NO-ONE would suggest was particularly 'fast' or exiting. Aprilia RS's & thier ilk are only remarkeable by fact that they have pretty mediocre performance from an engine displacement normally the reserve of L-Platers.
Given that you ought to have a full licence to ride one, that capacity limitation is irrelevent, at which point one has to ask what the point is; when you can get as much performance for a lot less money, or even a lot more performance for pretty much the same money, and not be fretting about piston life or siezures.
Licence is the pass-port to all biking has to offer.......
As for the chinky-bikes..... yes, for the most part they are. At least the genuine article Honda CBR or Yamaha R125 have the max performance allowed for learner limits..... those things often struggle to even provide that of a humble YBR or CG, while often being as unreliable as an Aprillia!

My wife has an AJS which our local bike garage wouldn't touch re servicing etc as he's had bolts shear off etc on virtually brand new bikes before and now he won't go near chinese bikes as they're too likely to fall apart on him.

He did say AJS was better than most and ours looked ok. Personally I'd rather have a second hand reputable make bike than a new chinky. I wasn't happy about the wife's AJS Rolling Eyes

The sporting Aprilia is available in two versions: the rs125 for newly licensed riders with power limited to 11 kW and the rs125 kat Euro 1 full power. A conversion kit can be fitted to the 11 kW version to convert it to full power at a later stage. found this on the aprilla owners website ... good info there man

If full power then it isn't learner legal (although that probably applies to 75% of the RS125s going around with L plates on them).

Restricted to 11kW they should manage around 80mph true (so probably high 80s indicated!).

All the best

Keith
