Has anyone heard about the new Axiam Quadricycles they're planning on introducing into the UK, so 16 year olds can have the safety of the car with only a moped license, presumably then they only need the CBT?
My french isn't so good, but looking at the stats on page 11 of their press release: https://www.aixam.com/ressources/pages/marque/DP_AIXAM-MEGA.pdf
It looks like its a 400cc, capable of 28mph top speed, and a range of 312miles from a 16 litre tank.
At top speed it'd take over 11 hours to cover the full distance. Although it's great for kids who need mobility, I can just see all the roads getting clogged up with these pootling along at 28mph.
Hopefully they won't change the law to allow learners onto motorways then But then if it can't reach 40mph it won't be allowed on a motorway anyway?
One thing I can't tell from the document is what a quadricycle is? It appears it has drive only from a single wheel? If that's right must be a challenge to go around a corner, especially at low speed. Unless the diff can switch to the outside wheel, but then if so, how does it differ from a car?
This is what they look like:
https://www.boston.com/cars/newsandreviews/overdrive/2011/09/23/Aixam-City.jpg
On the news it said they were hoping to sell 2,000 in the first month/year, I forget. |

What's new about it?
My radio show was, at one time, sponsored by the local Aixam dealer and that was 12 years ago.
Hideous shitbox of a thing, no proper crash testing, woefully underpowered and an absolute menace, even worse than the execrable GeeWhizz.
In my view, they shouldn't be allowed on our roads. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

According to the press release they sell a lot of these quadricycles on the continent and this is the first time they have brought them to the UK? The model is brand new as well. |
The model might be new, but the concept and the company certainly aren't, they've been squeezing out variations of this steaming turd of a vehicle since the mid 80s and, as I've said, they've been available here for over a decade.
In fact, I passed a well known South London bike dealer today, that have diversified into cheap cars (they were Reliant specialists at one time) and they've got a couple of used ones on their forecourt, yours for under 700 quid.
The reason they are so popular on the continent is, in many countries you don't need any form of licence to drive them, but I doubt that is, or ever will be, the case here. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

IIRC they're rather expensive brand new, 7 grand onwards, then again if it stops the mummy's boy from buying a ped I'm sure the bank of mum and dad will fund it ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

They can be de-restricted to do 60-70 however so I imagine piston heads is going to get what we get with our beloved ped boiiiis "hw do i dreestric ma car enit, or if man putz d k'n'n air filteeer will it beat my mates saxo?" So I'm guessing the derestrictions will be policed just as well as current peds?
Parts will probably cost an arm and a leg for when this 16 year plows into a lamppost cos he found his first pube and took his eyes off the road /
I think I'm just bitter and jealous they'll be warm ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

They're actually good for 55mph (rather you than me!) but you need a B1 licence to drive them, so 17 and older only.
Edit, after the licence changes in January, a 16 year old with a full moped licence can drive one, but the price will kill it, just as it did with Reliant. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

Really looking forward to coming up behind one of these on the local hedgerow lined NSL A roads
I suspect the only thing scarier than that idiotic 28mph limiter will be the 16 year old's insurance premiums to drive it ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

I think, it's just a fancy toy for rich kids, in my humble opinion. I would be even ashamed to drive it ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Just mouthing off then. As usual.
This confrontational "outlaw" persona you try so desperately to put across on here is most amusing.

It's a bit like a re-invention of the original reliant idea - a car you can drive on a bike licence.
The Bond Minicar you actually had to lift the bonnet and climb inside to kickstart the engine.
