PostPosted: 14:31 - 25 Nov 2012    Post subject: bandit 600 clutch slipping! Reply with quote

Hi I have recently bought a bandit 600, apparantly it had been tuned although the previous owner had no proof. Open examination I could see a different exhaust system and markings, stamping on the top of the barrel, apparantly some tuners mark the engine after they've rebuilt/tuned it? Anyway the clutch slips upon heavy load throught the gears, I've fitted a new set of standard b6 clutch friction plates and heavy duty springs but still slipping :?help!!
Cheers
Joe

Have you altered the cable to give the right free play as well??, too tight and you can get slip. Bandit 600 should have 10-15mm at the lever. If it's too tight on the lever adjuster slacken it off a bit on the clutch end adjuster to give you a bit more to play with at the lever end.

Tried that bud, enough free play at both ends of the cable

Yes. You didn't measure the stack height did you.

on the sprocket cover theres a black rubber circle, prize it out gently.

behind it theres a screw and a locknut, hold the screw (with a screwdriver Razz) and undo the nut with a spanner.

wind the nut off a bit. now back the screw out and slowly wind it in again, when you feel some resistance as your winding it in, stop and back it off half a turn. now hold the screw still and do the lock nut up.

see if its still slipping.

Tried that aswell Sad if it is a tuned engine an I've bought a standard clutch would it just not be up to the task?

Could be a worn out pressure plate. I've seen that on a couple of bikes - in fact, Bonny's CBR pressure plate was worn out causing the clutch to slip.

Its the stack height of the clutch. Can't remember the correct height of the combined fibres and metals, will be 40something mm iirc +-1.5mm or so. Bandits have 2 different clutch fibre plate thicknesses so you can achieve the correct stack height.

Bit of an obvious one - but you have tried changing the oil haven't you? 'Its been tuned' guy might well have shoved it full of magnatec or similar.
