Get a quote for the costs required to design such a bike, take it to the engineering department to get an estimate for building such a bike. Crunch the numbers for testing and approval and marketing and production and get an insanely high number as a result.

Visit the business school at your university, tell them this number and then tell them your proposed sale cost of the bike and the size of your consumer base and then proceed to be laughed out of the building.

How about designing something useful?

If you target a small market segment, you'll have low sales and high costs, so the purchase price will have to be set very high. Now from my understanding of couriers, they want a cheap to run, economical bike with proven reliability. I doubt they'd be prepared to pay so much more for the "perfect" bike when they could get a bike that ticks most of the boxes and is known good for the job, for a fraction of the price.

Might be onto something, I dont think anything like that exists.

Given up on the courier forums now have we?

Bikedesigner is an 'avid biker' who felt the need to ask why shaft drive would be preferred over chain drive.

So your plan is to design the Honda Pan European Thinking

Why not design something useful, like a bike with a hole in the tank you can put your willy in whilst riding and it "massages you" as you go?

Doesn't part of your criteria cover feasibility? If so I'm just pointing out that this project really isn't feasible.

Because like all students, I prefer to spend my study time on the Xbox, shagging and drinking cheap booze, instead of working on a more unique & worthwhile subject for my assignment

Your survey is dire.

I have just short of 20 years experience in and around the Courier industry. This includes being a rider, being a controller, running/owning the bike fleet and running the company. I am now one of the controllers for one of the biggest private fleets in the UK.

If you really want advice I can give it but you are looking at £50 an hour.

More and more bikes look like that.
It's very rare when couriers buy new bikes. It must be something about NC700S why there is so many in London now.

Courier Systems seem to be replacing their fleet of CBF5/6's with NC700X's simply because of the MPG factor.

Yeah i noticed whilst working in London over the summer that there was a lot of cbf's/bandits etc, maybe the integrated storage in the fuel tank could be a factor

I'm pretty sure the storage isn't in the fuel tank, else the things stored in said tank would then smell of fuel.

I suspect that the fúcking huge boxes on the back are used for storage.

I've heard that the reason is in MPG, reliability and Honda's warranty with unlimited mileage.

Many couriers got a small top box + an over shoulder bag. That's it.
So the storage is not the number 1 most important reason.
Some companies put the huge box on their bikes but most couriers don't need them.

My guess is: #1 reliability, #2 running cost, #3 Comfort, #4 quick in town, #5 storage

There is plenty of scooters and CBF125 as well.
Another guess about bike popularity: 60% seems to be Honda, 20% Suzuki, 15% Yamaha, 5% Kawasaki.

As an 'avid' biker I thought the ideal courier bike had already been done.

Wasn't it Honda's NTV600. No wait, the NTV650. Or was it the Kwak GT550 and/or GT750. Longer distance there's the Pan European. Then again the Divvy 900. Or wasn't it any bike with a working engine and a top box. I get confused!
