west mids police policy.."when reporting loss or theft of a vehicle the owner will be informed that costs re recovery will be made on them...£105 plus daily charge....vehicle found will fingerprinted.."....so then,this....Burglary,mint con bike stolen...reported,nothing said re cost...fingerprints at scene..nil...overnight/friday/saturday...5days later after insurance claim etc..we had made house to house enquiries and posted pics and reward(still no copper)in area..2hrs later(after posting pics and reward in area)(5 days after the break in) PC phoned."your bikes ready for collection!" HUH?..where?when?.."found the same day it was stolen, yards from your house, didnt someone tell you?"..HUH NO?..."its at ....motors 5mile away, you will have to pay £150 and £19 day charge,£160"..Where are they?...Dunno,try googling it?"..ring firm..."Its perfect"..goes over to see...."You cant see it till you pay the money"""PAYS...bike rideable..Finger powder on tank, canvas etc not on ignition switch which had been bent down to get at wires to start it.."(bends it back and starts bike after putting wire back on"........Could have called and pushed bike to house, could have knocked on door even...REfuse to tell us where and who found unless we pay for freedom of info !!!!!so Mr C>C we go to court for refund.....No other force does this unless owner is told and is told when found!!! Smells of back handers this!!!Then PC phones and sez"Has insurance paid recovery fee yet????er whats it to do with them???could have been f/printed in my garage/lock up in house secure/dry/.....)Seems they have assumed rights of ownership!!PS.it was found in a front garden!!!! ____________________ early view |

This would be more readable if you typed it up on a keyboard and used some of the special keys, like shift and return
As it is, it looks like stream of consciousness from a phone. Did this happen just recently? Did you actually take the police to court? ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

On the face of it that appears odd. My understanding is that if the police have a vehicle for fingerprinting etc. then you do not pay for the storage. Problem might be you not been told they'd finished with it.
I have never understood why you have to pay for recovery. It's the police's decision to recover so should be at their cost. If only a few doors down then IMHO no excuse not to let you know even if it's just a note through the door saying 'phone us.
Might be worth putting in a complaint. Of course nothing will happen, no police will be found at fault (and they wonder why the public has no confidence in them ). It might make you feel better though. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

It's stories like this that makes me wonder where our tax money goes.
It's not on education, that's for darn sure. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Oh no, I really was looking forward to the result.
Just so you know, most of us here don't wear leather arseless chaps, write biker poems or ride 1 day a year. Have fun discussing your mundane grovel on a "true bikers" forum.

I'm not unsympathetic, I'm just not sure what I should be sympathetic / angry / aroused about.
I rather suspect this is a Usually_Wrong stylee gangsta rap about how you're totally going to file a Federal Writ of Aggravated Class Action Tortitute against them. Best of luck with that, and I do mean it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I was hoping for a thread that would grow to the epic win proportions of Pryor v GMP. Great Scott of the Antarctic! I am dissapoint. |
