Mk1 Ford focus 1.8 petrol, year 2000, 55k miles.
Right, annoying thing the car does when accelerating is that when you press the clutch to change up, the engine continues to rev for a bit. It's like the accelerator is being depressed for a fraction of a second longer than it actually is. Letting off the accelerator earlier before depressing clutch and it doesn't happen, just dipping the clutch without accelerating and it doesn't happen.
It also occasionally stalls immediately after starting on some cold days, but starts up fine the second time around. Not sure if these are related.
It's more annoying than anything, also makes smooth and fast gear changes tricky as it blips the throttle on upshifts .
Checked for leaking inlet by spraying stuff around it, didn't pick up. Was thinking perhaps a sticking throttle body/accelerator mechanism but thought to ask first in case anyone has seen similar. |

Idle Control Valve is a common problem on these, it's located on the front of the engine.
Clean with carb cleaner.  |
