Apologies if this is not within topic rules but I have just secured this little beauty for a great price. Its a Virgo Microcar, all plastic, 505cc diesel engine. I went to view on a whim and when I looked at the engine layout, it will suit a bike engine almost perfectly as its got a drivebelt on the nearside attaching to the front wheels, am thinking bike engine with modded subframe to mount it all in, sprockets instead of pulley wheels!

Apart from the little bit of vomit in my mouth when I saw the pictures, it could be pretty cool if it worked properly.

I will be very interested in the progress of this, do you plan on doing a kind of blog/log of the project?! Would be hilarious to see it in action in the end, especially if you don't really modify the exterior - a true wolf in sheeps clothing Very Happy

Would be pretty amusing, particularly if it looked otherwise standard from the outside.

But.....
You can't just slot a 100bhp+ engine in a car designed for 20bhp without some major work! You'll probably want to do some serious upgrading of the brakes, suspension and wheels before you install the engine. Plus I'd want to work out whether the structure of the car can actually handle the power, or whether some reinforcement is necessary.

I think that's the whole point, it looks like it will blow away in the wind, and whatever Steve does to it it's never going to have the strength, braking or handling to really use a 150bhp R1 engine or similar to it's full potential. That's probably why it will be extremely fun to drive as well!

I do like my small car's but maybe that's just an inch or two smaller than ideal?

Did anyone on here ever see the Bond bug that was magazine featured and had a 350bhp Holeshot racing built turbo Hayabusa engine fitted?

There was also someone on the PPC forum that was building a ZX12R engine'd Fiat Seicento I think.

I totally appreciate that, especially when looking at the milk bottle top discs! I will get a pic of em, they are as small as a mountain bikes ha ha ha. Just going to try and find a damaged 50-100 horse bike and see if its feasible, then go from there. Even 50-70 horse will propel this little box along Laughing

Yeah, the smart has been done a lot before but I cant find a microcar that has. The plus points are that the micro is even uglier and slower! Negative is it will probably end up being fwd unless I stick the lump in the boot? Or one each end? Laughing

A SV650 lump would be a enormous step up in power for that thing... But the V twin noise might give the game away... Thundercat engine? 100bhp and a fair amount of torque.

I will be watching this thread Cool

Whatever engine I go for, its gotta be cheap and hopefully a whole bike so I can rob all the electrics etc. A twin would be great as its already a 2 cylinder. Just got to look at the logistics, pull the engine out and see what will fit. This will be an ongoing project over the next year so dont hold your breath for an update lol, took me weeks just to start spraying me bike!
