11 months, a few days and no spills Very Happy

Skill? Luck? Nah.. i've investigated possibilities of fusing my body with the floor with a bmx..

6ft 5 + some imagination and yes i've gone over those handle bars enough times to realise what concrete taste like..

ALTHOUGH near misses !?!? IVE HAD hundreds !!!!

Old bike having a false neutral, basically i pulled out in front of a bus and wanted to whizz off taking advantage of traffic as per usual.. but the bike said f*** you and gave me a false neutral..
I felt the bus's warm stanky vents breathing down my neck.

Err filtering, wacked my head + visor off of a van's mirrors then instantaneously sending someone's car mirror to venus..

Hehe Laughing

Well, I've been out of action for a while, ever since this but now that I'm off the pain killers and compos mentis once more I can give an update

Couple of pictures first since I know you like that sort of thing.

The original break

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/leg/leg1.png

The knee staples

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/leg/leg4.png

Knee staples and upper screw staples

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/leg/leg3.png

Latest x-ray showing the pin and lower screws, notice that no healing has really occurred with the bones.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/leg/leg2.png

Accident was low speed, caused by my lack of experience and some mud that I didn't see. Bike ended up on top of me so has minimal damage.

Accident was attended by 2 police officers in separate cars who, in turn, were more interested in whether I have insurance, tax and the appropriate license. Eventually gave me one of those silver foil blankets, but not until after they'd done their checks and someone from a house down the road had put their jacket over me.

Ambulance crew turned up after what seemed like an age, probably wasn't. Gave me loads of gas and air. Took the pain away nicely. Cut off my left boot Sad then shredded my textile trousers and jeans (both legs). Pretty impressed with the ambulance crew. Final act of the police was to breathalise me.

Owe a debt of gratitude to the guy who came from his house down the road. Nobody else had a phone and he let me call my wife to let her know. He also took my bike in and kept it in his garage while I was in hospital. Top man.

Quite pleased with how neatly they fitted the pin and how small the scar is - considering the size of the titanium rod that I now have in my leg.

Doctor's 14 week initial assessment was a little optimistic, now says another 18 weeks and I should be walking again.

Karma Thumbs Up to the dude who looked after your bike, if the police had stored it for you they'd have charged you a bloody fortune.
Hope you're up and about again ASAP. Thumbs Up

First crash about 6 weeks ago. Got my first big bike, Er-5 about 2-3 months before that.
So i'm riding along a quite road coming out of the center of town at 9 at night on a Sunday. I notice from the corner of my eye a lovely blond bird siting at the bus stop and loose focus on whats ahead of me, when i glanced back up I see that the pedestrian crossing are beginning to change, I could probably have made them but due to shitting bricks I squeezed the front really hard (lesson learned the hard way). The bike went down instantly and all I remember is flying through the air and rolling a couple of times.
Next thing i remember is this pretty blond lifting my black visor up asking if I'm okay, I later got her number and we're still chatting Wink.
I thought i was fine till i looked at my wrist which i couldn't feel although it was at a right angle, i then tried to manually straighten it with limited success.
Anyway bike is relatively fine, exhaust fell off, broken mirrors, leavers, indicators, headlamp, clocks and a few cm of eroded tank/engine protector, but the bike started up roaring like a champ.
The bike cost me £1150 when i got it, repairs looking at a couple of hundred (I hope), which is going to be my winter project.
I was wearing all my gear so I think i got off lightly for a 60mph off. Although i was wearing jeans so burned a few inches squared of skin away, oh and my wrist broke in 5 places, pics as follows.
The jacket i was wearing probably saved my arm as the whole elbow shield was completely messed up but my elbow is fine and the back of my jacket also probably saved a few more burns.
Moral of the story don't stare at hot blonds waiting at bus stops, and don't ever slam your breaks, locking the front is a fucker.
All my gear is gone as well, 300~ quid, helmet/gloves/boots/jacket and my hoodie i was wearing underneath had to get cut off Sad
And my iphone 3gs got trashed.
I needed 2 metal plates placed along my bones, part of the inside bone came out the skin slightly at the top, so I've got a hole and two half foot long scars for the rest of my life, FUN.

I'll receive some hate for what i'll say but it's true of what i would actually do.

Nice girl.. Pull over and have a gander, move on.
Peds crossing?
Mount pavement and carry on with my life.
Need for pulling the front and panicking.. erm... try and get over that with some adrenaline sports or something.. or alternatively just let go of the clutch.

A LOT better than nose diving the steed into the ground.

i think i would lock myself in a darkroom and cut myself a few times if i accidentally hurt one of my horses Karma

But Get well soon so you can drag that wench back to yer cave Thumbs Up

75 I think?

I took my supermoto out for a spin today as I haven't used it in months. A combination of low sun, still-wet roads, 90 degree bend, misreading the road conditions and over-confidence resulted in me lowsiding the bike on the way out of the bend Sad

The bike was fine and came out of it with a few scuffs and a scratched exhaust. I came out of it with damage to my leathers and lid, a bruised elbow and I bent my thumb backwards when the bars twisted.

Bit sore but otherwise OK!

I didn't even know there were staples in there at first, the dressing covered them for the first week or so. Joked with the nurse that they were obviously short staffed that day and got someone from admin to pop up with their stapler...

Having them removed wasn't particularly pleasant though.

One came back to me and said 'You must be a good rider your license is clean' - I replied that if I was good I wouldn't be lying on the ground with a broken leg.

I did feel sorry for him later though, we were chatting with the ambulance crew, turns out he'd met them at new year at a fatality. He was the one that got to turn up on someone's doorstep and new year's eve and tell them their son was dead. :/ grim.

Pretty much, the rear wheel lost traction and slid out to the side. I must have hit a patch of something slippery but I was focusing on the exit of the bend and missed spotting it. I set the corner up poorly anyway but thought I could save it!

It was pretty unspectacular as far as spills go, I am pretty grateful! It took longer to stand the bike up than it did to lay it down if that makes sense Smile

Also lol, I got a troll face from Paddy Thumbs Up

76?

Going to work yesterday morning, road goes down under a bridge then theres a turning right where there's always leaves and a nice slippy manhole cover so i always take it carefully. Unfortunatly yesterday was my unlucky day.... Navigated all of the leaves and the manhole cover only to hit some black ice and slide down the road on my buttox.

RHS fairing is all scraped and cracked, smashed the idicator, rear brake lever and mirror. Nose cone is all out of shape and the exhaust has a nice big scratch and dent in it. RST trousers have a nice big hole in the knee and after waiting 5 hours in A&E i've pulled some muscles in my back Thumbs Down

^^^Bad luck. Have some Karma

The roads are pretty unpredictable at the moment.

Have been 50/50 whether to chance riding to work and back or using public transport.

So far I've chanced it but, it's getting pretty close to the point of catching the bus or getting a cab. Thinking

Paint diagram for submission.

About 20-30mph in a 40, approaching lights on a long sweeping bend, very icey, cyclist bolted through a red (didn’t see me), and I went into death grip and slammed the anchors on. Was already tense keeping it up on ice. Would love too 100% blame cyclist, but that was a terrible reaction on my part Sad Early morning foggy head and a terrible knee jerk reaction too blame.

Front wheels at an angle (loosen everything on forks / wheel and straighten like a bicycle wheel?), and handlebars bent. Thats about it. Everything else is just scuffs.

Cyclist stopped, looked at me on the floor, then rode off. Neutral

Ooo, also, too add! Too maintain the true too life diagram, I did actually die, I lost 430 pints of blood, my leg fell off, and my arms have been torn from my body with the force I hit the ground.

(Or I have a bit of a hurty knee... One of the two...) ^^

esullivan wrote:

Might have been, he did run a red. Accident was down to my OTT reaction though. Had I braked gently I reckon he would have been past safely and I could have carried on. It was me slamming the anchors on that caused the spill.

I would have twatted the cyclist instead of slamming the brakes on. Then let the police sort it out. But thats just me.
