 |
|
I've managed to get an interview for a teaching job in a middle school. The odds are against me as I've been out of the classroom for 10 years and am 50, the magic age at which it appears no one ever wants to employ you again. On top of that, I have no idea how to use an interactive whiteboard, so am going to look like complete luddite.
Have to teach a 55 minute maths lesson to a class of 9-10 year olds and am getting very nervous. Am convinced mind will go completely blank and they'll all run riot.
Oh well, at least they're providing lunch..
Wish me luck. x |

They are just massive projected touch screens, and with software designed around it. Remember not to write on them with board markers if you do try and use it Good luck ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

I wish you luck.
Here is some info if you want it.
Smart boards, imagine the board is just a big screen trim a finger nail to make it easier to use it, or simply use the computer it it attached to.
Check the calibration BEFORE the class. If it ain't calibrated use the keyboard on the computer it it attached to.
Don't write! Type using the typing function USE ARIAL FONT, this is disability act stuff. Because special schools were all closed down. You will have dyslexics and discalculia learners. Or use other San Serif fonts only. Writing can quickly lead to horrible things happening, use text box function instead. It also avoids spelling mistakes.
If you are interested there is a teacher criteria these days for a satisfactory lesson (satisfactory lessons aren't actually satisfactory as they are subtitled by Ofsted room for improvement).
Don't ask me how I know but OFSTED criteria is something like this:
Set out your objectives for 10 year olds 3-5 are acceptable. BE SPECIFIC and SMART (Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, Time considered). You have to put these objectives at the start of the lesson AND the end of the lesson and check if you've achieved them.
Concept check, i.e. you can't say do you understand? You have to test them when asking to check they understand instructions. This gets on Ofsted's tits.
Class manage. I.e. move the sods around to demonstrate class management skills, schools all have a 1984 type psychological profile and work record on computer. Ask to look at the profiles and match strong with weak.
Be inclusive, and that means the kid who sits in the corner eating glue HAS to be given an opportunity to answer a question. EVERYBODY has to have a chance. You can't pick a fave strong learner. You can't code switch with such people as well, as it is considered by Ofsted to be discriminating against the able bodied children. Be prepared to give your slaves (teaching assistants) work sheets to run through questions with the weaker ones.
Be unpressured, which means if kid can't answer question after a max of two askings, you get somebody else to help him or her. As any more and Oftsted thinks it is pressure.
Differentiate, see the class profile I mentioned earlier? I.e. your class will have tards and genuises in it. Ask the tards easier questions. Stretch and challenge the clever people with more exercises.
Get people to stand up and write things on the board, Ofsted loves that.
Mix and match activities teacher at the front of the class lecturing is NOT acceptable for more than 20% of the class time.
Introduce an AWESOME warmer and I mean a youtube video of something absolutely awesome. A lot of children will complain WTF do I have to do maths for? You show them a few artillery barrages of Normandy and they'll be drooling.
There are many more items but these are the most important points. ____________________ "It's easy to attack and destroy an act of creation. It's a lot more difficult to perform one" |

90 minutes later and you'll be at home with a cup of tea and it'll have all seemed like a bad dream.

Hand out test cheat sheets, give them all an A+, everyone earns a bonus.
If you're not looking forward to it, then maybe teaching isn't for you. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I dont understand why people would employ a younger woman over an older woman.
For me personally id always hire the older woman.
Younger women are no doubt likely going get pregnant and have time off and its the employers duty to get cover etc
I wouldnt want that hassle.
Probably the same reason men get hired over young women, though no employer would ever admit it.
Good luck
