Thought I'd test BCF's ability to multitask with this thread.

Two things on my mind

1. Winter storage - I'm going to be away for five weeks, possibly six weeks, and I'm wondering how I should prep the bike for such a long time of non-use? Remove battery and...anything else?

2. Crash bars for a GPZ500 - I've found some crash bars on the net made by renntec, they're quite expensive. Bungs are cheaper but involve drilling through or removing the lower fairing which I don't want to do. Are bars difficult to install and...is there anywhere that sells them for less than £100??

Hope the cold weather riding is going well! Forecast for Sunday is 10 degrees Shocked , I'll definitely be out for a ride - in my t-shirt and shorts! I won't get road rash if I just slide along on ice, right? Right...?

Winter storage...................... what's that?

Bars are dead easy to fit, will take about an hour if you have to make a cuppa and eat some hobnobs while doing it.

Well it seems to be a "hot" (Laughing) issue here so I thought I should confirm what it involved.

got bars on mine, never had to test them but they look and feel sturdy enough. You can also stick your feet out and use them like cruiser footrests Razz

I go away for 3-5 months at a time on ship. All I do with my 'best' bike is a quick spray with FS365 and plug in the optimate. The other bikes have to take their chances Laughing

I've never had a problem with anything except the odd dead battery so if you take that off & fully charge it you should be fine.

Or be lazy like me, buy an optimate and forget about it Thumbs Up

Oh, and crash bars - buy a reputable make because, a bit like cheapy bungs, if they aren't mounted on strong points on the frame, they will do more harm than good. Look on the bright side, my crash bars for my Tiger were £175 Crying or Very sad

I'd unplug the battery and call it a day for winter storage - 5 weeks isn't a long time for anything other than the battery.

Maybe isolate the tyres from the cold ground. On the centre stand and some plywood underneath them.

Ensure antifreeze strength is correct.

There is only one make, so I'm stuck with that!

Think I might leave the battery plugged in so that the alarm still works. Even though I won't be around to hear it...it might piss off the neighbours
