Cheers speed for the concern. It has been a very long consideration going back many years, especially as my family are understandably not particularly thrilled. I did the Manx GP last year so I know the circuit and risks, and after the Senior race at the Manx last year when it was wet I am at least happy the TT will only run in the dry. Getting an entry is going to be very difficult, hence the PR campaign, but fingers crossed.
I've got one 600, an R6, which is the same bike I raced at the Manx last year, and I'm currently trying to secure funding for a Supertwin ride as well. It will actually be cheaper to do the TT that it was to do the Manx, as there's no entry fees (entries alone for the Manx were a grand!) and no need to take intermediates tyres. Still looking at probably 3-4 grand for the whole event though, it adds up quickly.
Having said that, it's a drop in the ocean compared to what many of the guys will spend. The engine is standard on the R6, so that's a big saving although it puts the bike a bit behind on power, and even with things like the pit lane speed limiter, which would be a few hundred quid, I'll spend that money on tyres instead. You can get round that by testing beforehand what revs are needed in 1st gear to keep the bike below the speed limit, and just using the tacho like a speedo.

This is awesome, wish you all the best!
It’s my dream to do the TT one year, I don’t care if I came last – just to compete would be enough. What age did you start racing? ____________________ Thundersport Pre-National Sport 600 2014 #92

You have never got a hope in hell (quoted to me years ago )
I was very much in your situation, very little cash, not brilliant results on the short circuits, all the odds say no but I can assure you it can be done
My top tip would be Preparation, it took two years of hard work to get onto the grid.
For me ( like many others) it was a lifelong ambition, the main thing is not to fool yourself it would be ' just the once' it is more addictive than crack.
This addiction cost me over £ 100.000 over 5 years ( working 7 days a week, living with parents, no going out, no other life.
Was it worth it ??? Yes x 100, but the come down when you can't get your fix could destroy far more than you might think possible.
If you want any help or advise please ask.
The replies will probably not always what you to hear, it is a huge struggle but with a positive mental attitude you will make it.
It will also give you massive bragging rights on Internet forums coz you achieved what thousands of others wil never achieve it is a fairly exclusive club on Bcf |

Does't sound good for a 21st bday, hopefully mine goes a bit smoother
Yeah I'll be at cadwell, probably going to stop at Mallory on the way back down to mine for the track day on the Sunday as well. First run out of the year is just over a month away for me now! 27th Jan at Mallory, can't wait. ____________________ Thundersport Pre-National Sport 600 2014 #92

Fantastic OP - I wish you well in your endeavour!
Might I suggest reading a book? Nothing too heavy, it's by a bloke called Mark Gardiner (you may have come across him before, if you ever buy classic bike that is).
Basically, he dropped everything to go race the TT. It's a fantastic read, that really gives you an insight into the preparation and dedication needed to race.
Unfortunately, due to the hectic nature of the actual racing, he doesn't cover that all that much, but nevertheless, it may help with an insight into what it's like?
It's called 'Riding Man' - only available through Kindle, but if you have an ipad/smartphone/computer or whatever, I think you can download Kindle apps onto them to read it.
Sounds like I'm advertising, I'm really not, I just thought you might get some use/find it interesting.
Again, good luck and I'll be looking out for you (if ITV4 actually give decent coverage for once).

p.s. If you need a bike cleaner/spanner turner/bacon sandwich maker for your team, give us a shout . ____________________ CG125-K1 (1978) - 35 years old and (mostly) going strong! (Restored and rebuilt by my own fair hands).
