so where would be a good place to buy a 45/55w BA20D from locally?

Look for an auto electrical place, or look up 'motor factors' in the big yellow doorstop.

To be honest, halfords should be able to get it, depending on the chimp you speak with on the parts counter.

ORLY?

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_263703_langId_-1_categoryId_246903

Those are 35W 12V jobbies, I don't think you can get anything higher, at least I've never seen anything anywhere. They tend to be used on older/small bikes that don't kick out much electrickery.

FWIW the Varadero XL125V uses the BA20d 35/35w bulbs (aka 395 bulb). Daughter's Vespa LX scooter also uses the same.

I'm trying to get hold of Xenon BA20d bulbs to give a little better illumination - see here.

those two links are for HMB417.

dont think they're the same as BA20D.

if they are though, explains why BA20D returned no results.

i have a halogen or xeon in there already. cant remember which, either way its still absolutely crap.

you can get 55w BA20D but only seem them online for £75!

My old YBR used a krypton 395 and I found the 417 halogen replacement to be a massive improvement. Not seen Xenon ones (I assume you mean HID?) but have seen blue tinted halogen ones on the likes of eBay claiming to be that.

BA20D is the type of fitment, AKA Bosch. The numbers are specific bulbs which use that fitment.

You could try one of these:-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCOOTER-HALOGEN-UPGRAD-HEADLAMP-BULB-12v-50-50w-BA20D-/300377023419?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item45efdda3bb
You should, however, be aware that the lamp may require more current than your bike can provide and that the heat it will produce may cause the lense and reflector to melt.

my cityfly uses the same bulbs, they're only rated upto 35w.

I got a xenon one from ebay, it is a bit brighter/cleaner light but doesn't really make much difference at all really

If the headlight is crap, then using a brighter bulb will just mean you have warmer wires. A decent headlight works perfectly well with a 35W bulb.

If your headlight is an ebay cheapy, it'll always be shit. Brighter bulbs won't help, getting a decent headlight will.

Used these on the CBR125, Much better than the OEM bulbs and lasted 2 years and 20,000 miles before one blew.
