Any long distance journey that doesn't involve lots of stop start and gear work is going to be more economical - as long as you're conservative with the throttle of course... |

First of all my bike is downgeared (-2t front) and 33bhp, but you already know that. I have a lead fist in the city and I get around 35-38MPG.
On a motorway trip down to Paddy's I was averaging around 80-90mph and filtering through the M25 gridlock for several miles at around 60mph. From that I got around 46MPG.
On the return journey I had the throttle pinned for most of the journey and was hitting 100mph+ (high revs considering the downgear) and got 35MPG.
If you keep to legal speeds you'll see a nice increase in MPG ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

My 650 TA will hit about 45MPG on the motorway run but I'm a fat bastard. ____________________ 22PlusY

If you can stomach keeping it below 70 on the motorway the mpg can be quite remarkable. Keep it around 60 and the results are amazing… until you get crushed by a milk float.
I tend to peg 80ish as my compromise between mpg and staying chilled and out of conflict.
Honda say 47mpg for the 1000 and that’s pretty much spot on for my usual riding. I did manage 55mpg on the way back from Scotland, but that was sticking religiously to 80 or less and draining a whole tank between stops… …4 times in a row. That’s a lot of go-juice for one day in the saddle.
My 500 averages 54mpg on a mixed commute and I’ve managed to claw 64mpg out of it on a quiet motorway bimble, but that was with some dedicated “tard” riding at around 60mph or less. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

SH300 - 85 motorway vs 70 normally, mostly city usage
ER6 - 65 motorway being boring @ 70mph, 60 when touring usually on open roads and having a little fun, 50 when riding hard
I get 130 miles per tank on either bike riding hard, 160 riding open roads, before reserve light. But ER6 tank is 33% bigger.
(Actually, ER6 tank is over 60% bigger, but I don't push into the reserve on the ER6, while I tend to drain the SH300 almost to empty as I'm never more than a half-mile from a station. But trip meter counts on both bikes end up similar when I refuel.) ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

This would be more informative if you included what bike it is ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

I get about 170 miles off 18 litres (commuting speeds up to 70-80) so err...
It costs me £20 a week to run it, I'll leave it at that ____________________ 09' Versys 650 | 07' FJR1300A |
