 Posted: 23:34 - 02 Jan 2013 Post subject: 1999 Ford KA scrap pricing? |
 |
|
Hi,
I just need a spot of advice on what to do with the other half's Ford KA-ck. It's falling apart and tbh scrapping it has been in the pipeline for months. The steering rack is leaking badly, the exhaust just fell off and it needs a service, possible clutch and much more I'm forgetting.
I plan on ringing up a few breakers to see if they fancy it but I'm a bit lost on gauging the asking price, she bought it for £900... I know, I was pretty pissed at the fact she paid so much for a shitter but you know.
I'm thinking about £400 but I don't know enough about cars to make an accurate assesment. Rule of thumb I'm guessing it would need £100-£400 spending on it depending on the buyers level of car knowledge.
Any help greatly appreciated. Karma given per usefulness of reply... ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Scrappies/breakers will give you a pittance. How saleable it is otherwise depends on the state of the bodyshell. If the inner and outer sills are rotten you'll find it hard to shift considering the other faults. If the shell is sound the other jobs aren't too bad. Exhaust is almost a consumable and the rack isn't that big a job. The clutch is half a days work on axle stands.
I'd stick it on Gumtree for £100 and say good riddance to it. £400 is very optimistic - I bought a 51 plate in nice nick with tax and test for £750 a couple of years back. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I had a 99 ka that failed its mot needing loads of welding doing. Scrap value was something like £100.
Put it on eBay listing the mot failures as it was just welding so if someone could do it them self they would make oodles on resale. Think I sold it for near £300. Was quite amazed tbh. They are apparently well known for enjoying a bit of rust. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

Locksets seize (though they are hard to get out of the doors), rear shelf is worth a few quid if it hasn't got holes in it and the glovebox catches break so they sell easily too. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Our old Citroen Picasso's Turbo went and I was quoted a rough price of £1800 for a replacement
Rang a local scrappy, they collected it in about half an hour and I ended up with £200...
Sometimes it's better to just let it go... ____________________ our bike family...Wanda - CBF600
